    Them LED's are addicting...

I just welded another pair of mounts to my bumper before it goes to powdercoat. Just in case

So I think I figured out what my flickering/pulsing issue was with my lights. Since I added the 42" this had started. I figured out that I'm just drawing too much power. At higher rpm's it does just fine. But as soon as I come to a stop or turn It would start flickering. Also rollign widnows up or down it would dim a little. I have a tpms lcd screen that shows my voltage and kept a close eye on it. Normally I run 13 volts or so at lower rpms and 14 at higher. But with this bar it still runs at about 14 in higher rpm, but when the rpms get below 1k, the voltage drops down to about 12. Not really familiar with alternators and whatnot but I am guessing I need to either upgrade the alternator or run an extra battery or both. Hopefully I can just upgrade my alternator and not have to buy another optima ($$$:/). Gonna do some more searching in the forums for this. But if anyone knows a link off hand I'd appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks.

Sounds like an upgraded alt (or just a new one) would help more than a second battery. You could also try going with a larger gauge wire for the light bar? Wire won't transmit the same voltage that you see at the battery. Voltage drop is determined by the gauge and quality of the wire. So when you see 12v at the battery, the led bar is probably seeing 10.8, or 11v. That's where the more expensive bars may do better. Most Rigids run full power as low as 9v.

I'm also thinking you should run larger wire to the bar. And dont forget to use the same size for your ground wire as well. I doubt you're running too much power if all you have are LED lights. They just don't draw that much.

So smaller wires DO restrict flow of electricity? I was reading some post about how someone used smaller wires and felt the bar wasn't putting out what it should then they upgraded to a larger gauge wire and it was noticeably brighter...

All my Rigid's on at once draws 31.8a @12v

Still nothing compared to 150w Halogens though.

Well hell. Maybe I'll upgrade the wiring on the bar then and see what happens. But I'm pretty sure it's not that. As I said the voltage is dropping and if it's bigger wire issue then it'll draw more power if anything right? Idk I did use the wire harness that came with it from China but it seems thick enough. I do have 12 gauge so I'll try that and see. Would the relay restrict any power flow from the positive side? I have the bargrounded to the fender and the relay grounded to fender separately...

Would the relay hinder the performance of the LED bars? Or any aftermarket light for that matter?

What bar are you using and how many 10W leds is it? 18 you said? 180w draw at 12v = 15amps

no? relays are designed to handle loads up to 30/40 amps or whateevr

    26 leds . 290 watt
But I have a lot more lights and sub and hid.. other leds for running lights. I'll have to add everything up and see what total amperage I'm drawing from everything. I still have more lights to install yet...

How is it wired and with what size? I have 10g on my 240w bar. How long is the run of wire?

    Sounds like you're choking it.

Idk it's the harness it came with. 16 maybe. And if it wasn't big enough wouldn't it hinder performance even at higher rpms? Cuz it seems fine until lower.

God I love 2nd gens with wider fenders:) And like the rims too. Truck looks good man. I wish 1st gen fender flares had a cleaner look to em. Almost an oem look. Idk why they don't make em like that to begin with. They'd sell like crazy!
