Great pic! It's not that it needs cropping, more so the composition could have been changed a little. The guitar is a little to front and centre. I would have utilized the rule of 3rds a bit more honestly.

Love the colour and tone though!

This one I really like the shot, but the backlighting f-ed me down. I need to go back out at sunset and get it again.

Wow! Those are gorgeous! For the track one I would have shifted the POV to either closer to the foreground or opened up your FOV to get more of it in focus. Currently it kinda looks like an Iphone Instagram pic that has the blur filter applied to it.

IMG 8441 and 8557 would have been fantastic for HDR. Still amazing pictures regardless!

For the Truck one, again; it's very front and centre for me. (Personal option.) Off to the side a bit would have made it for me.

Thanks, the track one was on purpose. I wanted a real shallow DOF. I was sprawled out in the snow to get that haha.

    That's snow? Looks like sand!

Yeah, snow. I was soaked by the time I was done. When I upgrade my body, it will most likely be a 60D. Hell even the T3i has a flip screen.
All my creek shots I think would be so much better if I could get lower. Summer time not a huge problem, but right now, I am against filling my boots with water. lol.

    1) I like the track in the snow.

    2) The church being in the center of the frame just doesn't work for me. I would have like to seen it off to one side. (rule of thirds)

    3) I like this but, I personally I would have cropped the top down to just above the mountains. There's nothing in the sky to see and cropped draws your eye to the field.

    4) I really like this photo. The composition is good and I like the tone mapping you did.

    5) My eye just keeps going to the road. I can't seem to find a subject to the photo.

    6) This one is kind of tricky. I like the way the trees are growing but the foreground kind of does something I don't like. Maybe a closer shot of the trees and done in HDR to draw out the limbs and textures.

    7) Gorgeous photo. I just can't seem to find something as a subject.

    8) I agree with Serge on this one. I'd like to see the truck offset to one side.

Personally I'll use HDR when the sky is heavy overcast or when there are textures that I want to really bring out. I'll also try it when there are a lot of clouds with a really blue sky. If there is a storm coming in you can already guess what I'll be doing.

Today I have had my camera for one month. Have so much to learn but one thing that keeps coming up is what Ian and several others have mentioned is the need for a GOOD fast short prime, my only prime is a 300mm F4. Still trying to get much of anything in the way of night time shots, had an owl early in the week at dark on a tree near my house which I couldn't get a shot of no matter what I did. He didn't wait around too long for me to figure it out either. Last week had the chance to shoot a wolf after he killed a deer at sunset near the cabin but couldn't get it. Stayed up to 2 AM till the pack showed up and even with half a dozen of them circling me couldn't hold the flashlight, focus and shoot except for the deer carcass.

When a snow storm started after sunset a couple of nights ago the sky turned orange and had a strange glow to it for a few hours. Best I could do for a lens was with a 18-135 walkabout lens and ended up with 3200 ISO and couldn't get lower. Because of the falling snow if I set shutter speed too long it created a white curtain of snow so was limited by what I have. But it was a good learning experience.

All of the Oaks around the house started to bend under the weight of the snow
    [IMG]

Snowplow didn't come by until late yesterday afternoon to fill in the top of the driveway for me
    [IMG]

My bobsled track is almost complete now

That awkward moment when you have more snow than Canada. :p

70D. The ISO performance on those is ridiculous. Simply ridiculous. And Dual processors. Yummy. The Flip Screen has really helped me get some good low down shots.

I mean you can still get great shots without the flip screen, but as a gimmick; it's a great one! Both those shots I was pinned up against the wall with the Camera nearly sitting on the ground. No chance in hell to see the back of the camera unless you're incorporeal.

    I like that crop Cody.

Cold Iron, those are some cool shots you got. My favorite time to shoot is at night.

Serge, I really like that shot of the fire truck!

Thank-you Thank-you. I've posted it before, but just wanted to reference the flipscreen.

Every time I see that truck in hall I want to take pictures of it. It's a beast. 4x4 and axles that would make a tank weep. It was one of my first forays into HDR.

Thank you very much Murph! I tend to want to center stuff, and I think to myself when I am out shooting that I need to not center stuff, and I still do it anyways...
