My silver Tacoma 2014 TRD 4x4 w/off road pkg / towing pkg. V6 auto trans. ATRAC/ RR Diff. lock /dbl. cab......After reading the many threads on this site, I`m just now realizing what an awesome vehicle this is and it`s capabilities.. But I`m not big into off roading and getting it muddied up and possibly tearing up the transmission. I paid too much for it to be abusing it. . My .02 cents......waiting for interesting responses from the hive.

You won't hurt the transmission. As long as you know the limits of your vehicle and your driving skills and drive with some finesse you can go pretty far off road without hurting anything.
But yes, you're right, these trucks are very capable right from the dealership!

^ this these trucks are amazing off road. You would probably bounce into a tree off road before you tear up the transmission.

    The truck is awesome indeed!

Nothing with a pickup bed from a dealer's showroom can do so much without any modifications as the Tacoma, IMO!

The A-TRAC is huge... and so many do not realize what it can do... and it comes with the truck!

I just read a PM from someone seriously stuck in a snowbank... that is until he activated the A-TRAC and got out!

Now, go get yours dirty... enjoy what you paid so much for... so what if you dent it... it's a truck and it is not going to add to your life unless you use it!

I agree they are awesome trucks, Im with you on taking it easy on her for a little while but like mentioned above they can handle a lot as long as your are smart.
Ive had a 1980 4x4, 1985 2x, and a 1996 4x4 and have driven all of they like a stole them. They have all held up to the abuse, maybe im just getting older or this is my first new truck but i have treated my 2013 with much more care then my last trucks, once she is payed off i will not care so much.
Enjoy your new taco and don't worry too much.

Agree with all but the part in bold. I'd cry if I dented mine.

And I agree with you OP. These are great trucks. I'm taking mine out to Colorado next month and we'll see how far I can make it up North of Silverton.

It will look a little something like this

I would say you will make it as far as the paved road goes since we have record breaking snowfall this year lol

Yeah.... I've been keeping up with road conditions every week or so. I'm hoping to make it from CO. Springs to Ouray then down to Durango. Year before last we made it just fine but last year we had to go south through Alamosa. Weather dictates everything.

The way I see it we have bigger things in life to worry about than a few dings here and there. We will all be dead some day anyway, so who gives a shit if we have fun and get a little beat up along the way, including our vehicles. I'm not crying about any of the scars I have on my body, so why should my truck (inanimate object by the way) be any different?

Now I'm not saying to tear your shit up, and yeah the first ding or scratch sucks the most, but as the old saying goes, "shit happens".

Agree, but for example I drove through a bad storm, producing tornadoes, and a tree limb flew into my roof and dented the driver side above the rear door, not such a big deal, just glad no tornadoes actually touched down right next to me (real bad storm).

But this past week coming into my damn tight entrance gate to my apartment complex, I ease on the safe side away from a lady walking out of the gate with her dog, and not paying attention, I ran my entire rear driver side fender accross a guard pole. Yeah that one hurt right in the feels.

Lol yeah. The roof was fixed up by the Toyota body shop, but my fender, well I guess all I can say is I am more surprised at how calm I remained after hearing the "scrahAHCKJHCZ" noise as I ran down that pole. Not "too" bad of scratching but it doesn't look pretty in direct sunlight. Rubbing compound fixed 99% of it. A few "f you and your dog and making me be nice and giving you plenty of room to walk" even though it had nothing to do with the woman's actions lol.

Yes, awesome trucks.... at least most are. I just traded my '06 this past August with 175,000 miles on it. As I type this, my '13 with 5000 miles is in the shop for the 3rd time.... 3 weeks in the shop out of the last 6 weeks! I have a weird engine noise that has not been able to be diagnosed. As of Friday, they are checking crank and cam seals this week, then they want to pull the engine and check the crankshaft and camshaft. I have already contacted a lemon law attorney, I want a new engine or a new truck. I'll probably find out more this week, but I'm really disappointed in this new truck. I also own a '06 Camry XLE and a '07 Camry XLE, so I'm a Toyota kinda guy, at least for now or they turn me away.
