Damn. Is the owl still alive? It looks like there is life in it's eyes. :(

    That's sad, I like owls. :(
My shot for the week. I am not very good at editing black and white correctly.
I changed it from my original, if that's not ok, I'll change it back.

Why is it showing 104 pages in this thread and every time I try to go to the next page it throws me back on page 102 (this page)?

    It was indeed tough.
I still haven't gone through all 100+ images.

Really wanted to do a steam engine, but the lighting, museum layout, and other visitors just weren't cooperating.

So I present.... "The Terminator Shot"
Spot was about .6 mile from the observatory, total was about a mile walk from where I parked.
The Los Angeles skyline in the background is about 5.5 miles from the observatory.

That is a shame that the first one you have seen is dead. But it is a powerful picture, thanks for stopping to take it. Guess I have always kind of looked down on the common barn owl compared to a great gray or snowy. The next time I see one I will not be looking at it the same way as I used to.

I haven't been to LA since the 70's but can tell you back then no way could you have seen the skyline at that distance due to pollution and often present inversion layer, wow great picture!

My grandfather was one of the engineers at Corning Glass that designed and poured the lens for Palomar so when I was stationed in San Diego that was one of the first places I visited. According to family and the school system I was supposed to have followed his footsteps and be a ceramic engineer but took a different path. I still have a strong interest in good glass of any type and observatories.
