Thinking about registering trailer in MAINE.

    Here's question i have:
If your trailer is under 3000 lb. Maine does not issue title, but what if it's home made trailer and it's under 3000 lb. Is it possible to get a title?

When I went to reg. my homemade trailer I was issued a set of numbers and i used a set of stamps to stamp the frame. How it is now I can't tell u but this was a few years ago. As far as a title I don't have one.

in Maine, if the trailer (homemade or not) needs to be 1995 or newer and weigh more than 3000lbs empty in order to get a title. If it weighs under 3000 lbs (regardless of year) it cannot be titled in Maine.

Check out this website for more info. It has a lot of info. acetraileragency.com .

I believe some (many?) states frown on out-of-state trailer registrations by state residents, at least the non-commercial ones.

I think MA is one of them.

They may frown upon them, but it is completely legal to register in Maine if you live in another state. There appears to be only one state that has a law that you have to register everything in their state if you are a resident there.... Delaware.

I used http://www.mainetrailerregistrations.com/ and paid seventy something for 5 year registration. I towed to West Virginia and bank to Pennsylvania. And probably towed 50 miles locally in PA with no problem with law.

Well, some of you are close enough to 'the law" or are IT, so it helps things a bit...?

Interesting stuff - the above Maine site specifically says no live-in camper.

In my case, buying an older used boat trailer in some future, I wonder if I would have enough documentation. I guess I can try Maine first, then MA, as needed

Maine registration agents can't register any trailer with sleep quarters due to being an excise taxable item in Maine.

If you would like to register your boat trailer, give Ace Registration Services a call. 207-615-0385. www.aceregistration.com .
