Welp, my CCW came in the mail on friday (Virginia), and the wife and I came back from Maryland (no reciprocity) today and went around town. I legally carried today for the first time ever. No one noticed, not even my wife, until she asked when I was going to start carrying.

Anyway, Holy cow! You never realize how much situational awareness you can possess at once until you're packin' heat on your hip. It's such a great feeling to know that if I should ever need to, and I hope I never have to, defend myself, my wife, or innocent people, I no longer have to be completely helpless hoping cops come before it's too late.

Packed up a little mobile range kit into an LBT assault pack, grabbed the brokos belt, a new AR that hadn't been zero'd yet, and a friend and went on a hike with a friend. Stopped along the way to give the weapon a 25 meter zero; just something good enough that I could shoot a pig or coyote if we ran across one. Plan on giving it a 100 meter zero once I get it on a proper range.

I've never shot a G18, but I'd love to. Can't imagine what the practical purpose for one would be, but it sounds like fun!

Of you can, open carry in your area (if it is legal), it will amaze you how oblivious people are. I have a friend who open carries and the amount of people who don't notice is amazing. Then again, he had a black gun with black holster, dark jeans and a black hoodie they day I was with him lol. And your situational awareness will increase even more when you open carry as you are a bit paranoid over people who see you (or at least I am).

Actually, if you are in va, it is an open carry state, open carry away (I did until I turned 21). If you are in northern va I wouldn't open carry, they are a little gunshot up there.

In close quarters, I would almost pick one over an smg, if you had to carry a battle rifle of some sort, it would make a great close quarters weapon if you rifle wasn't a good choice. I was able to easily keep it into a 2ft square (if not smaller) at 15ish yards. I probably did better than most because I shoot .45 and the 9mm is really light recoil comparatively.

It is shockingly controllable, as in if I had a big enough mag I could probably write my initials on a wall with it. The wall would have to be something the size of an indoor house wall though.

The glock 18 (actually it was a converted glock 17, same difference) was on my long list of guns I want to shoot before I die, it was very near the top, and since shooting it.....I want to shoot it again, and again, and again

Yup, here in NOVA. I'll stick to concealed. Too many politics around here, and I'm sure people wouldnt hesistate to call me a public nuisance and drop a dime on me. If i'm legal to carry and conceal, i'll do that over open carry any day.

I've heard some horror stories from people open carrying in NOVA, I'm in southwest va, I can open carry all day, I may get a couple of funny looks but won't have anyone say anything to me.

Though, if you open carry you will be amazed at how oblivious people are

To you guys who have them, are Timney triggers worth the $$? I have an opportunity to get them at a significant discount and the firearms I own that they'll fit are a Mosin Nagant and an AR15. I'm considering it for the Mosin because that trigger blows to say the least but for an AR, is the Timney worth the money over say a Rock River Arms LPK trigger?

Kind of hard to answer this w/o knowing the price as I would base my opinion on what I know of real world performance & retail pricing and I would go with Geissele every single time. Maybe it's nearly free in which case sure it's going to be much better than your basic LPK FCG. For the MG I don't personally have experience but you can't really do much worse so I would assume it's worth it if that's a rifle you shoot frequently. If not, save the money whatever it is and spend it elsewhere. I mean worse case scenario if you're buying these at a significant discount just buy them, try them out and if you hate them you should be able to break even at minimum. I've bought a LOT of firearms over the years on a 'free trial period' similar to this and kept lots of them. This is one of the few hobbies where if you have the cash you can easily buy something, try it out and generally at least break even. If you buy right you might even make a few bucks for your time.

Oblivious might not even be the best word. I'm sure "ignorant" is a better word. From people assuming youre a LEO to people thinking youre an outlaw. If they don't know the law, they'll assume you do or youre ignoring it.

I guess I should have been more clear, I was talking from a performance standpoint. I'm a novice shooter and it's a hobby for me, you won't see me in any competitions. I like to strive for accuracy at the range but I'm not a marksman by any stretch of the imagination. I can get the Mosin Timney trigger in the $70 range and the AR in the $150 range. I'll likely buy the Mosin trigger regardless since I enjoy shooting it and the trigger that came with it is terrible, I'm just wondering if someone like me will ever notice the difference in the RRA trigger vs. the Timney trigger.

It doesn't take an advanced shooter or marksman to notice a difference. Once you shoot it or a Geissele you will soon notice why they're so popular and worth the money. Like I said before, it's easy enough to change them try them out and then swap them back of you don't care for them and sell them. If you have the money then it seems like a no brainer to just try for yourself.

Thanks for the input, I guess you're right, I can only lose by so much money by trying them out. If I hate it, I could sell them off and probably make all my money back.

I have a timney single stage in my AR, it is awesome and well worth the money. I switched from a gritty PSA trigger though so it was a massive improvement over that.

I mean oblivious, most will never notice that you are carrying (even when open carrying) those who so ignorant is the better word, but the majority of people don't notice. Children notice a lot (it's at their eye level), as do a few other groups, but most don't. In my area though, the ones who do notice it don't care

I agree. I have a 3.5lb timney single stage in my ar. Feels amazing. At 150 for it I would definitely buy it. If I had to go full retail it would be different. Nothing wrong with timney at all though! I use it everytime I take the ar out (be it 300blk. Or precision 223).

If I was going full retail I would be looking at the hiperfire line up. Amazing single stage triggers and I like the adjustable weight.

I ended up committing to 2 Timney triggers. One for an AR, 3 lb pull and one for a Mosin, same pull. I'm thinking about picking up another stock for the Mosin and leaving the factory one unmolested. I got a good deal on them so if I don't like them, I think I could sell them off for what I'm paying.

Does anyone have any experience with using a Lone Wolf conversion barrel for a Glock? I'm thinking about picking up a stock length .40 barrel for my .357 sig glock.

Lone Wolf makes quality products. Just pay the extra money to have it 'blind marked' because the logo is fugly.

looking for advice here. What is a good deer hunting rifle? I am thinking that is going to be my next firearm purchase, but not sure what to go with. For the sake of me being uneducated about guns, please also tell me why a particular rifle is good for deer. Thanks.
