Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx tires

I got mine from Tread Depot. It was the only place that seemed to have them. Didn't sound like they had too many. Looks like Discount Tire Direct just got some in stock. When I ordered mine, they were on back order with no ETA.

 

Just ran these tires off road and all I can say is FUCKING AMAZING. I ran them on gravel roads and slick rock up in Sedona on Broken arrow. I was able to run in 2WD through a lot of stuff. I aired these down to about 15psi and they gripped like glue. Not a single sketchy moment, no chunking, nothing.

Only complaint I have is that at 53-57mph they get loud, then quite down again quickly. They are really smooth. Cant say enough good things about them.

 

That is interesting in an odd way. On my FJC they are nearly as quiet as my Nitto Terra Grapplers.

 

Absolutely love mine, had a nice trail run Sunday which was actually the first trail/crawling I have done with the tire, they work amazingly in the sand and des.

Running a 265/75/16 on stock wheels and suspension, no complains here.

 

I'm seriously considering these in 265/75/r16. Can I expect a slight drop in gas mileage from my current General Grabber AT2 in 265/70/r16....due mainly to the increase in tire weight?

 

Nothing really noticeable honestly.

 

Looking on Tread Depot now....only 6 lb difference.

That sounds a little high honestly. I never had my e load BFGs that high.

 

Was really going tj get these but got as man in deal on some 35x12.5-17's fierce attitude m/t's which have great reviews so I ant with them but I may try to get a set of the st maxx's for street use they keep looking better an better

 

Depends on the size of the tire. If the stock P-rated tires came with a recommended 29psi for a 2150lbs rating, a LT265/75r16 should be about 40psi, +/- a couple. A LT285/75r16 would need less at 35psi for a 2150lbs load rating. Something like a LT315/75r16 would less than 35psi for a 3150lbs rating.

 

I know I posted this a couple weeks ago, but, I have still been researching tires for about a month now. I have literally read tons of Jeep forums, f-150 forums, Diesel forums, various Off-road forums, more Jeep forums and I have literally read TWO complaints about these tire. TWO! And that is covering A LOT of posts dating back to 2012. One of the camplaints was a guy complained about soft or spongy side walls on a diesel forum and I forget the other one. Other than that, people LOVE these tires!

Another thing I have noticed was, a lot of people were on the fence between these and Duratracs. I have never owned duratracs, but time and time again I read about side wall punctures. Not a lot, but consistantly enought that there is usually one person that CLAIMS to have personal experience with puncturing a side wall.

By summer these will be on my truck!

 

Same size. 265x75R16's. 35-37 loaded is what I have mine at. And even then that's too high.

 

The load table is only approximate. For my 285/75r16's, 34psi seems good for the front, and 30psi seems good for the back.

 

How's gas mileage for those running 265/75/r16? I stopped by a Cooper dealer to look at these and they indicated the tires weigh 54lbs. A little heavier than I wanted....trying to stay under 50.

 

It's good. You really won't notice that much of a difference honestly. Jumping a tire size to 285s or 315s...now that will destroy your mileage.

I understand completely, but unloaded 40 PSI is way too high for him. I've got 400+lbs in the back of mine and it's at 35-37ish, and even that's too high for proper wear honestly.

 

I only suggested 40 psi more for a starting point. He may have to lower it some and the rear air pressure a bit more than the front if he usually has an empty bed. Maybe the Coopers need a little less air pressure than the average LT tire He'll have to do the chalk test to be sure he's not wearing out the center tread.
