It is super annoying. It is actually embarassing. It never did it until about a month ago. It makes me feel less proud about it, and to anyone outside they probably think "What a piece of shit." :(

I shouldn't have to in my opinion. I will fight for them to do it, but if I have to I will.

The dealer can't control this problem, no one can. it's metal filings flying around from brakes and other things. sticks to your truck and rusts from the road salt.

I know it sucks. I hate it as much as you do, but that's the price we pay for living in the great north.

I have changed bumpers up to 30,000 miles and a couple of years old.
I don't know the "fine print" on rust so I can't give you an honest answer.
It could be a dealer opinion at this mileage.
I do know little specks on a bumper ain't gonna get you a new one.
I wish I had the pic of the one I changed. It had 1/2 inch rust spots.
I took some polish and rubbed it all away leaving the little specs and from a foot away you had a real hard time to see it.
Nothing wrong with trying to take it in and have them look at it but I would make sure they had "some rust" ie brown stuff for them to see.
    The chrome is junk anyway.
My chrome lug nuts are rusting. Mine is 2 1/2 years old with 9000 miles.
I don't know if I can have anything done or not.
I'll have to ask the rep when i see him.
    It's a crap shoot man.....

They probably won't do anything for you it's only a cosmetic thing. It's what happens to every single vehicle when the brakes throw off debris and sticks to the chrome paint/whatever. Just clay bar it and be done with it.

I removed all the rust spots with a scotchbrite pad last year. Took maybe 30 min total. Will have to do it again this year when it gets warm.

This is the way to do it. Never ever ever ever ever use a brillo pad/grittier steel wool or your gonna have a bad time.

That looks like surface rust to me. Should come off easy with some chrome polish.

FUCKING NEVER USE STEEL WOOL ON CHROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The color is nickel. The chromium is only a couple of microns thick, and WHEN, not if, you scratch it with steel wool, it will begin the (perhaps not so) slow process of peeling and further rusting.

You might be able to clean it up and make it look good for a month or two, but if the chrome is actually rusted, it is already damaged and the rust will return.
If it is surface rust from rail-dust, it will come off with a clay bar without damage to the chromium.

Used properly, a clay bar is not abrasive.
You can (and in your environment perhaps should) treat the entire vehicle every 6 months with a full detail and wax every 2-3 months.

Check out http://www.autopia.org and do not listen to anyone who tells you to use steel wool on anything other than your white walls.

I've never had an issue and neither have they. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/50074-steel-wool-chrome.html. Neither has my boss who has been doing it for 40+ years.

Just keep it lubricated and it's fine.

Obviously it won't repair pitting from rust but it will take off crap from the surface.

Steel has a Moh hardness rating of 6-7 while Chromium is at 8.5. It won't do anything to the chrome.

Just clay bar it and see if it helps. It's a safe and effective method. If you get no results bring to dealer and be done.
