Anyone in a state that requires a front license plate figured out a solution for installing the front plate OTHER than mounting it right against the plate? Toyota tells me they do not offer a frame of any kind to mount the plate. I just can't stomach mounting a peice of cheap metal against my paint like that.

I used foam weatherstrip to pad mine so no metal touches the paint.

I guess I was just looking for a more OEM solution. I hate having to jerry rig something like this.

Why they didn't make a frame that stands off from the bumber / valance I have no idea.

I use the foam weatherstrip idea too. A strip on the top and bottom works great & keeps the plate off the paint. Done it with my Tundra and now with my tacoma.

EvilBetty, at first I thought "what???" but your right nothing for padding. I'm going to buy one of them plates that has maybe a team logo or something and made of plastic and double it up.

Atleast you have the choice. When I went to pick up my 7.8 mile new truck, the dealer already punched two holes in the bumper for their Puking paper logo. And since I live in a state that does not provide or require a front plate, I was a little pissed. But I put a winch on two days later and not they're out of sight, so it was a wash.
For polling purposes, I would choose the weather striping idea.
Now that you mention it, My 97 Tacoma, mothers 06 Avalon nor my Ex-Fiance's 99 Camry have a front plate bracket. I would yonder to believe that they don't make such a thing.

    Nothing at the moment
Walmart sells a plastic generic frame that is the same size as a license plate. I used the stock plate screws with it and just flush mounted it with the plate. Too bad that the damage was already done from the plate when they screwed it on at the dealer (Nice 8 inch long scratch where the top of the plate rubbed against the bumper). I'll try to take a pic of it in the morning if I remember.

Just get a cheap black plastic (you could color match if you want) frame, flip it backwards then set your plate inside and mount. That way it's just plastic on plastic.

    *edit*
Just noticed this is an old thread. Glad it came up!

I took my front plate off. Washington requires a front plate, but I decided I'll take the ticket. Been driving for almost a year now without being pulled over.
