New BFG AT's

Didn't realize there was so much hate towards BFG ATs. I love mine and they do amazingly well compared to other tires, especially in the sand.

 

Its called internet group think. A vocal minority holds an opinion and constantly voices that opinion, soon others begin to parrot that opinion.

I've never seen so much love for the Duratrac and hate for the BFG AT KO. But that's the way this board as a group see's it. Go to another truck site and they may see it differently based on their board's vocal minority.

 

Poor design is poor design..... That is objective, not subjective.

My old BFG's had 33K on them and easily had another 30K in them... I'd rock em again personally.

 

I have not found 265/75/16 in load range C. All I see are load range E, which are too heavy for what I need. Are they still producing load C tires?

 

It's not a vocal minority, it's that these things have been put on pedestals in the AT world for FAR to long. People are finally starting to come to their senses as they finally branch out and try someone else's new AT's.

You'll find a lot of the haters are people who ran BFG AT's for a loooong time and now run something else.

That should tell you something.

I'd like someone show the empirical evidence, that proves these beliefs.

I ran them for years and would run them again, the reason I've moved on to other AT designs because BFGs are just over priced, and I can get similar performance for less money.

But that doesn't mean the design is poor, or that the tires sucks.

Its merely personal opinions that one design is better than the other.

It doesn't take very much looking to find "empirical evidence." I could keep going but I'm becoming bored looking at reviews in which the BFG AT shows itself as an aged technology tire that costs significantly more money than its competition. Also, I haven't said they suck ... but .. when I'm looking to make a purchase and one of the products doesn't perform as well as the others and costs 30% more. I wouldn't say it doesn't.

BFG isn't as good, and is more money. Hankook's and Toyo's rated better. Here they rank 62 out of 72 among user reviews in the AT category.

In this reviews, separate form the one above the BFG did stand out as better in deep sand. It lost in all other categories, badly on road manners.

Which has been my experience. For my needs and driving style there isn't a whole lot of difference... at least not enough to deserve the hate the BFGs receive around here.

Chris4x4 my experience has been out of all the newer ATs that the Toyo's were the least capable again your mileage and opinions may vary.

Repeat something often enough to people and eventually they take it as fact.... Bfg has big money in advertising. Placebo effect ftw

They are here to sell a product and nothing more.

 

Again, my point was to show that there are better options for significantly less money. If you don't think that a product being overpriced by 30% or more and under performing vs. it's cheaper peers is reason to dislike the product then I'm a bit stumped as to what would qualify??

 

Yeah plenty. Les Schwab big MT tires back in the day were Wild Country MT's. They had two different lug patterns, one looked better but was not very good traction. It reminded me of the Toyo MT. The other pattern was much softer and gripped great but only lasted 20k.

Thought both were sub par.

 

I already said I don't run them, because of the price.

 

You can find Hankooks cheaper than that. I got mine two years ago. The BFG's were 220+ and the Hankooks were 150, so more than 30%. $209 is a good price on the BFG;s, maybe they are finally coming down. I regularly see them for 220+.

On Amazon right now, 265/70 17 BFG's are 229. Hankooks are 164. Prices vary obviously. Discount matched the prices from Amazon for my Hankooks, they're cheap there for some reason .. sold by Hankook too.

Amazon is a hidden tire gem for me, not a lot of sizes but they're getting more. Also, I have prime so free 2 day shipping. Usually tho, I just make Discount match the price.

 

Those look really sweet, I was gonna throw a set of 265/70R17 KOs on my truck to replace the stock Dunflops, but if these are supposed to come out in the next year or so, I may just hold out for them...
