thanks! Your grounding wire location will be different because you have a short bed double cab, so do understand search out that before starting!

Excellent work! Rep for the write-up and clean install!

I would go this route but the cost of that kit is a bit higher than I care to pay ($89 on Amazon - with no warranty).

    My search continues....
And I like the LED options - I do not want regular lights (fog, reverse, etc).

Originally when I was looking for my Taco, I had insisted that the dealer find me a bright red taco with a 6spd and a trailer hitch( that wasn't a TRD model). Even though they were interested in a sale they were not all that interested in doing a whole lot of leg work.
I finally found one, what would be typically called a left over with in 20miles of my house and told the salesman "get it, if you want the commission" two hours later he called me and said they would do it.

I won an ebay auction for a strip of bed lights. It started at $.99 and went off for $3.25. It's a 4' strip and the seller has 'buy it now' sales going for $15. I got a great deal on it.

Hell, judging by the stamps, it cost $4.75 just to ship it from Hong Kong.

Anyway, I don't think I am going to use them. They are flat and real small lights. Would work well underneath a motorcycle or something. I'm looking for rope lights a bit brighter and protected by a clear tube (much like rope lights you can buy at Wal-mart).

I may just break down and order the tubes that Tigerfan used in his install. I think their $50 or so. I don't want or need the wireless thing and will not use the converter. I just want to wire them straight through 2 (3 pole switches) switches, a fuse and directly to the battery.

I installed mine last weekend as well. They are awesome but already stopped working

I could not find spade connectors small enough for the tabs on the back of the switch. Not being familiar with soldering, I just squeezed them on. Well, I guess one popped off.
I'll pull the switches out and dab some solder on there to secure them.
The LED lights looked awesome while they were working.

I wired a switch in the cab and in the bed. Either or both can turn them off or on. It's a great setup.

glad they worked! They've been AWESOME for me.. using for camping/bbqing and so on.. wish toyota had them installed already. you dont always have to soder everything though, just make sure all connectors are pressed firmly, check your connections, and then wrap in electrical tape. You'll be set then

Just a suggestion to make those lights more efficient. Here is a link to someone who has done the same project as you

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-lights-w-tailgate-pin-switch.html#post894370

what he did was put a door pin in so that when he opened the tailgate, the would turn on. He also put a manual switch in the cab so that he could turn them off if the tailgate would be open for a long period of time

So maybe this is something you would want to look into, who knows. Just thought i would help!
