i've just installed the Powertrax No-Slip unit yesterday. have driven just under 100 miles on it.

there is a loud CLUNK when turning left from a dead-stop!!! what can it be???

when turning right, i feel and hear the locker 'disengaging' which isn't as bad but turning right.......a loud THUNK!!!

i'm positive i did the install correctly, with their "go-no go" test.

anyone who runs a No-Slip, please help!!!

diff fluid used: amsoil severe gear 75w90.
can this be the problem??? do i need to use their "slip-lock" additive because i have their severe gear?

    HELP!!!

When you installed it, there is a small pin that has to be installed JUST right, otherwise you can have issues. Its been a long time since I installed one, but a buddy is comming over tonight, and he just installed one in his truck...I can check with him.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
That would be the locker engaging.

Limited slip additive is not required.

Just doing some trouble shooting here, but when you installed it, did you make sure the coupler teeth were aligned propperly with the syncro ring? Also, the NON slotted spacer gets installed BEFORE the slotted spacer, even though the instructions show differently.

its a pretty loud THUNK!!! though...

    is this even normal?

i mean, like i said, i do hear the locker 'disengaging/engaging' quietly when turning right, but left turns are UNBEARABLE......with a THUNK to accompany it.

i mean i've just installed it yesterday with less than 100 miles on it. thought i would try to "break-in" the locker.

    HELP!!!...still

    yep, the teeths aligned correctly.

hmmm......the non-slotted spacer??? looking at the booklet here.....did you mean the spacer to where it would align with the "paddle opening in synchro"???

i have a lock-right in a jeep of mine. basically the same design. i have heard it make some very strange and loud pops and clunks. from a stop if the teeth are not meshed (disengaged) and you apply torque and begin to turn when the teeth finally do mesh it can make quite a racket. from what i can tell its pretty normal. i was making a hard left turn from a stop uphill once. the inside tire hit a piece of flat sheet metal on the road and began to slip. the locker grabbed and i swore the rear end was coming out of the truck. probably the loudest sound i have ever heard inside a vehicle. i went home pulled the diff cover off and everything looked fine. no metal in the oil or teeth missing. i have probably close to 40k on the lock-right with no problems aside from the noise.

as far as a constant noise it does vary alot. some days it was very loud some days it wasn't. i could never figure that out

Yes, that one. Keep in mind, it will make noise. I laugh at my buddy because his sounds like he is breaking his axel.

does the power-trax have the springs to keep the teeth apart. four sets of two springs one inside the other on both sides? from that pic it doesn't appear to in that pic above. what does it use to hold them apart?

if the springs on that one side aren't working properly that could cause it to be louder while turning only one way. i would start there. it sucks to have to pull the diff cover every time but that's pretty much the only way. make sure the springs are seated correctly. try engaging one side at a time and see what it sounds like individually.

Well, I've driven both the Lock Right and No-Slip and while both make SOME noise, the No-Slip wasn't very loud at all.

The only thing I can thing of (other than faulty unit/ installation) is that the constant pressure put on the unit by the auto tranny is keeping it locked when you stop. Try coming to a stop shifting into Neutral or reverse then back into Drive and see what happens.

After driving both units for a few hundred miles, I remembered they started to get quieter.

Also, the locker can bring out some other issues that went previously unnoticed. Have you greased your U-Joints and Slip Yoke lately?
