might be able too. But i litereally have no idea how that would work...

    BUT

here is an idea for you.

Get a helens, whic is pretty dang long btw...84'' so its longer then your 6' bed as it is so there will be over hang by a lot..

and get an Awning with the solid floor and walls. AKA..hole extra room off the side of the truck. You can get walls for the awnings and basically make them into tents.

Yeah, I just double checked the weight and it's heavier than I expected... like 140 lbs. I was thinking I could have it over hand the cab.

BUT, the design would be easy. Just make their door awning full width and a bit longer and you could zip to it just like any other tent. It could be a cool feature, especially because it's such a low profile system.

Who knows, might be one of the new features they come out with soon..

But the size killed getting one of those for me. They are more for SUV type rigs that have to have it up so high. And yes weigh a lot, plus gotta count the steel bed rack you use to put it up high.

^Man, Tbar's build is one of my favorites. But at 360lbs, I'll probably to the RTT route. Blackdawg has me all worried about verticle CG now!

You have a good suspension setup so you'll be fine for a lot of stuff..just depends on what you drive or plan on driving..

That's what I'm thinking. Really, I just want the tent for longer overland type trips. But that means I need to be able to take it off fairly easily when I want to go rock crawling. Overall, I'm not 100% on the tent idea. I guess I'll wait and see what CVT releases in a couple of weeks, then I'll make a decision. (and, knowing me, buy a tent, LoL)

    Well Blackdawg,

You'll be happy to hear I decided the Mt. Rainier is too big. I'm thinking that a Mt. Shasta size tent will be perfect.

Well, life has gotten a bit more complicated than I anticipated... It looks like I might not be able to afford a RTT during the group buy. Bummer. We'll just have to wait and see how the finances shape up.

You going to Moab for the TaCO gathering?

I hear there will be a CVT tent as one of the raffle prizes.

Man, right now, it doesn't look like it. I'm officially on money lockdown.:(

Absolutely! I'm hoping I'll be able to salvage some work here and start making money again within a couple of weeks. So if that works out, who knows, I might make it out to Moab yet...

I ran across this video that discusses some things to look for when buying a roof top tent. I thought the video was informative and I notice that CVT tents seem to have almost all of the features mentioned. The only difference I saw was that the Gordigear used a plastic/aluminum honey comb base and has a waterproof membrane material rather than CVTs anti-condensation mat.

Congrats on the 20k! I know I've contributed to a few of those views :D. So you don't have many issues sleeping in the bed with the softopper? I'm kinda torn between going that route or saving up for an RTT setup. Unfortunately funds won't allow me to get into the CVT group buy going on (damn wyo winters and killing my work) so I'm kinda leaning towards a softopper at this point. I think I'd get more use out of a topper anyway considering the camping season in our parts doesn't last super long.

^Hey thanks, Shipps. It always makes my day to hear that someone is actually enjoying my build!

So, camping with the Softopper is really comfortable. I have a full size 3.5" memory foam mattress that I put in the bed, then I usually just put regular bedding on top of that. My wife loves it and it has really gotten her into camping. I've been seriously considering a RTT, but that is mainly just to sleep more than 2 people. For just 2 people, the Softopper is perfect. Just hang a couple of head lamps from the crossmembers and you've got internal lighting too!
