    Lol!

I only bought it to throw in the truck for camping, or during inclement weather. I used it a couple weeks ago to drop some trees at my buddy's house, otherwise, it's been sitting for a year.

downsized to a Stihl 170 & still have the farm boss. the 170 get's about 90% of the use so far. Light little saw, skinny chain, 16" bar, goes with the big boys on "most" stuff & doesn't wear you out if you use it all day!

Gotcha. I've had a couple claims with them and they seem to be pretty easy to work with.

Greetings all - Stihl 270 with 16 and 20 inch bars, usually 3 - 4 cords a year, barring nasty wind events....

Question - anybody notice a teeny bit of decline in new blade durability, or is it just me? Seems like the original blade (6 years ago) and a few after that lasted quite a bit between sharpening. The ones in the past couple years got softer? I get maybe one to two days of on and off cutting and they'd be pretty far gone. Most all of my cutting is maple, and hasn't changed these years. Stihl blades, by the way. ???

    Thanks,
    Arc'

Got me a Poulan Pro 42cc with an 18" bar for Christmas. So far it's a really nice saw. Eventually I would like to get a stihl when the poulan croaks though.

Thread revival because I got a question lol

Been running my saw for the first time (for more than one or two cuts) today and the blade started smoking. Now I know before it got sent to my house mom let someone use it while they were doing some work at our house and they burnt the tip of the bar a bit, but it would still cut fine for me.

I've got bar oil in it, I do not know when the last time the bar was replaced but the blade was replaced before I got it.

Anyone know how I can get it to quit smoking?

This is also the first time I've actually ran this saw or any larger saw for any length of time, I've been running a smaller husqvarna with about a 16 inch bar so this saw was a bit more than I was used to but worked great for me lol

Oh, the saw is a Husqvarna 266xp with I think a 20 inch bar. I got it from mom when I got my own house, it was dads before he passed. All I really know about it is that it is a horse of a sawit on what I could tell using it

    And pictures of said saw

Not a clue, is the bar oil used for the roller tip or do I need to use grease or something

I know there is bar oil but that is it, for all I know something is clogged. I know how my weed eater runs and can usually diagnose problems, the chainsaw is something I know very little to nothing about

The tip looks burnt like the roller has overheated

Still farm boss and an older wood boss, bars from 16-20" with both semichisel and ripping chains in stock. The Polan is my choice for brush work. I maintain 30 acres of mountain forest with pioneer roads.

Newest saw is about ten years old, wood boss, o28 is over 30!

I'm pretty sure it has been burnt, (by some idiot who used it on our property when working on something for us). It was out of bar oil I think. Do I need a new bar? I can do that if need be

With it tensioned how I believe it is supposed to be (watching videos and what not to try and learn), I can not rotate it, I might be able to with gloves on but even then it wouldn't be easy. It was rather loose before I tightened it (teeth out of the groove in bar when sitting on ground without pulling ) I could move it.

How hard is it to replace the bar?
