Hahahahahaha well ok then. I used a sawzall hooked to the power outlet in the bed sunday. Didn't go full speed but was probably a good 75% and did the job.

this is what it comes down to ^^^^

it's a cool concept and people are always looking for more storage, especially watertight storage. but that cable is a pain in the ass. it wouldn't be hard to build it strong enough to take hits, but if I were to use that area for storage, i'd likely want to keep recovery gear in it.......but wait, if you get stuck and need it, good chances that you can't lower the box to get to your gear.

HOWEVER, the idea has potential. if I were going to build a storage case in that location, it would be welded to the crossmembers that support the spare. and the lit would be a cut portion of the bed.

    Think Honda Ridgeline.......
doesn't have to be a trunk style hinge. even some heavy duty door style hinges would be fine, with a toolbox style locking latch and some weatherstripping.

good idea, poor execution. you were half way there. this is why designers usually work in teams or at least have their designs undergo peer reviews.

not before I leave texas. but that'd be something easy to build and ship. he just has to do the cutting, mounting, and figure out how to seal it up. also going to have to add a new rear crossmember, since to get full use of the space, you'll likely have to cut out the x shaped frame brace the the spare mounts to.

Done! Might paint the lower valance section black to go with it. Should I use plastiderp for that? If I paint do I need to sand it first?

Don't sand! Just clean and spray after you are done masking off.

Edit: also, color match that grille!

Good idea... my raptor white frame grille is still 8 or so months out... so might at least paint that gray paint on it black.

Hmm do any wax strip step first?

Edit: You have any luck painting on the chrome? I assume that's what you did with your Toyota emblem (haven't taken a minute to read your build thread... might be in there...)

Derp the chrome grill and then color match spray paint over it... It'll hold until you get the other one.

I would just clean the area real well. Dipyourcar makes a pre dip spray but I don't think it will make a big difference. I painted my emblem with krylon fusion and it worked pretty well but I have had some paint chip off from normal road wear and tear, I would recommend white plastidip instead as it will hold up much better in my opinion. You can get some at Lowes.

i had almost forgotten the ass pain and whatnot of the "2005+" dual battery tray installation debacle. My batteries arrive. Happy Mike. Proceed with installation. "FUCK YOU MIKE!!!!" says the battery tray as the first battery doesn't fit AT ALL without forcing the fuse box back. The second battery must be a whore because she slipped right in.... or did she? NOPE! MY FUCKING HEADLIGHT WAS UNSEATED. Well, I guess I can force it in...... AHHHHH!! there we go. HAH FUCK YOU BATTERY TRAY! MIKE 1, BATTERY TRAY -0! Time to put the awesomely painted battery restraint mechanism on (with provided hardware). whomp whomp whomp WRONG!!! batteries don't sit right, causing the clamp to not sit right, causing my headlight to not sit right, causing my fuse box to be bent back and unaccessible, and only one of the j-hooks for the clamp (the front one) has clearance to do it's job (and i use that term VERY loosely. i've seen more thread contact on a naked homeless guy in hawaii). someone (adam@armortechoffroad.com) is getting an ear full of angry mike tomorrow and rectifying this situation. now. i'm getting drunk because this fucking truck is going to be the god damn death of me. FUCK!!!!
