you have to goto the Police dept in the town you live in and change the address on your FID card and it takes like 2to 3 months

No paperwork needed as long as you don't try and purchase anything while being a resident as far as I know.

Just remember while in NJ you can NOT use your gun for self defense

I might have to GET a FID card. There is no such silliness down here - I've got my concealed carry permit from FL and that's all I've needed until now.

It already appears that I can kiss my concealed carry good bye for a while...which sucks. Gotta figure out the process to move to the state now I guess...

 

no you can still keep your CCP but you can not carry in NJ. N.J. requires you to have a FID card if you don't have on you can't go to a range and use your guns.

 

yeah, this. You only need the pistol permits to buy pistols, its a totally wack system. Get an FID it can't hurt

 

Jersey sucks for firearms real bad that's one reason my friend moved to N.C.

 

Egg Harbor Township isn't a bad area I have a lot family up there. It's also close to the Atlantic City Expressway for an easy run to DC. Are you going to be working out of ACY in Pomona?

 

Yeah...I won't give up my FL CCW, but it appears that NJ doesn't recognize anyone elses permits and is a de-facto no issue state w/out a good reason. So my Crossbreed IWB holster is gunna be lonely.

 

Yeah...I'm gunna call the State Police and talk with them..cause the references I've found so far require a handgun permit, which they won't issue to me, to even move a gun in a car inside the state. I might be reading it wrong, but I'd rather be too conservative than get arrested for a gun related offense.

FID/Long Arms ID has nothing to do with carrying of pistols as far as I know.

and I have never been asked for my long arms ID card at any range ever but it has been a few years.

My card that is brand new specifically states: "XXXX is herby granted permission to purchase rifles and shotguns pursuant to provisions of NJS 2C:58-3 with amendments and supplements"

If I were Brunes I would not change over my license to NJ because once you do your screwed. At least with your old addy you can cross the border into PA and buy stuff. Once you get the NJ license PA people won't even think of selling you anything without all the forms and permits.

FWIW - I submitted my paperwork to change the addy on my long arms card because I moved towns within the same county and it took me over 140 days to get the new card after having to go through the entire fingerprint/background check process again.

can not transport unless:

going hunting (better have hunting stuff in the truck with you)
going to range (better be a member)
going to gunsmith (better have an appointment)

I never feel safe transporting firearms in NJ because no matter how hard you try to comply with the law there is a loophole somewhere in the laws that can totally screw you.

 

Do you have kids? That will be the biggest factor with finding a place.

Yeah...This is the feeling I'm getting. And I'm looking up the statues, some reference websites, and I'll be calling the state at some point. Going to talk to folks in the Coast Guard up there too. But all the input I can get helps me come up with a decision.

I won't give up my FL license but I do have to update my address on it. So we'll see what that means. At this point - I just want to be able to store the guns at my house and not get in trouble. I'll survive not being able to shoot on the regular. I don't get as much practice as I'd like now...and if using them to defend yourself is as bad a deal as it sounds...I'd rather just lock them up and be pissed about it.

I'll be looking near the airport and for a small place, or maybe getting a place out by the beach with some room mates. I wanna see the area and check out driving times and what not before I commit to anything too solid.

 

I go to non membership shooting ranges....
I just make sure that my ammo and firearms are stored separately and locked and I have no magazines loaded...

 

I have a aluminum baseball bat for defense even though I have a few rifles and pistols.

I would suggest getting the book Nappen wrote. I have a very old and outdated version and I need to get the new one. I think the old law was you had to become a member. I haven't read any of the new statutes.

Yes... I did everything by the book.
Feel free to ask me anything but I'm not very experienced in the matter.

I've only had the permit for under 3 years, so I'm not sure about any law changes prior to the time I've had my permit. But from time to time I go to Bayonne's police dept. own shooting range which is open to the public only select Sundays every month and they only made me pay for the time used and never asked me to to become a member.... I have also went to bullet hole which is also privately owned and open to the public.

 

that's correct to possess no but to buy any fire arms you need a FID and permit for hand guns. I just went and applied for mine a few months ago and was approved. If you apply for a FID your reference's must live in the same state you apply in. It's a huge pain the ass.
