On my way to work I slowed down to pull into a parking lot and got hit. The damage doesent look too bad on my taco but he hit me hard enough to spin me 180 into a curb

His airbags deployed but we both walked away

It's on it's way to the shop now hopefully an estimate will be coming in the next day or two

I am a bit worried about the frame. The pics don't show it well but the bed is torqued a bit and the axle is actually a few inches off center as well as the drivers side wheel/hub is bent

The driver who hit me was 80 and seemed confused. He didn't even realize his airbag deployed and he thought his truck seemed "ok"

He refused ems, but the cops said they would follow up with him

Glad you weren't hurt. I hope your truck isn't too messed up. More importantly, I hope the old guy is ok, glad the cops are going to follow up.

X2! The frame will never be the same if it was bent.

My wifes truck has never been the same, Her frame is crinkled behind the leaf mounts and the bed has never sat straight since.

DO NOT SETTLE for a "frame job" of any kind. If you see frame damage fight tooth and nail to get a new truck.

I got rear ended by a drunk driver back in 2005 6 months after I got my truck. I was 18 so my parents handled everything. I was told the frame was ripped right above the tire. Almost totaled it out but would of left us owning so my parents fought to get it repaired. A rear section of the frame was ordered from japan, took about 4 months to get the truck back repairs 14k. My air bags did deploy or would have totaled.

We do a lot of frame work at the shop I work at and no one has ever come back to complain about the vehicle not driving properly.

    A bit of advice.

I work in the Collision Repair Industry, I have for a long time.

We are a very successful shop, with a reputation to back us up, frame work is a regular practice, generally accepted by the auto manufacturers, however, I have learned that some manufacturers will void a factory warranty once a repair like this takes place, there for... YOUR INSURANCE company is now required to stand behind that repair that they chose to have performed. Every insurance company has a VERY different set of rules as to what they will and will not do, so that's up to your provider. (Maybe they'll allow a Toyota dealer do the frame if you don't have a decent shop in your area.)

So, most people ask me... what would I do?

If my truck had a substantial amount of damage (~$5k+), that included the frame, I would probably cash the check that the insurance company issued to me or the body shop, and drive your truck to a Toyota Dealer and trade it in on a brand new one. But that's me, I'm ridiculously particular (picky?) about my vehicles.

Also, take a good look at your exhaust... the whole system, for damage.

If it was such a danger why would the insurance company approve of it?

If one accident happened where someone was hurt because of the metal fatigue weakening the vehicle they would get sued into oblivion.

I just find it hard to believe with a quality shop doing frame work no vehicle will ever drive the same again. We have had brand new 3500's to Jettas to FRS's come in and require a frame repair after MASSIVE hits and no one has ever come back to complain about that.

I would have to think that even though a collision shop is a for profit business, they are still a customer service business.

Poor service, and poor work quality hopefully isn't the norm

The girl who I have been speaking with from the shop has been great. Unfortunately this has been a brutal winter up here in pa and she thinks it will be next week before I can get a estimate

They haven't come back because obviously they havent been hit again or prolly got smart and sold said vehicle.

Now he asked if you didnt know what metal fatigue was. You skirted the question so you must not understand.

So take one of these massive frame jobs your "company (that you have no stake in)" fixed by pulling.

Now subject that vehicle to the same collision that brought them to you. Think the result will be the same? I highly doubt it. Because the metal that was an impact crumple zone is now just fatigued metal that can no longer absorb the impact. It just gives.

So tell me again how well a frame pulled job is? Remember were not saying it won't drive straight or smooth. It's the safety that's now compromised.
