Hi all. First post here but I've been lurking for about a year now.

I own a '12 DCSB off-road (3 leaf/non-tsb). It is stock with the exception of a camper shell and carpet kit. Just performed the 30k mile service so I have the urge back to do some wrenching...previous vehicle was a bit of a maintenance whore so I wasn't motivated to mod the taco when I bought it but I enjoy turning a wrench and have a hard time leaving good enough alone. Since it's time for tires I figure it's perfect time for a mild lift.

Plan is to run duratrac 265/75/16s on either the stock rims or a set of the fj trail team rims.

Next month I'm going to order my lift. I'd like to keep it as close to $600 as possible but if it makes more sense to increase the budget a bit I'll put the purchase off another month.

I was planning on removing the sway bar and running 885s up front and a 2" aal for the rear. Undecided on 5100s all around or the OME shocks...could also run 5100s up front and then picking up some 5160s for the rear in the spring.

The taco is our camping machine and I use it to explore the desert and mountains around Reno so it needs to be a good mix of on/off road capability.

I guess I'm looking for guidance on the lift. Should I run the 5100s on all four corners with a 2" aal or is it going to be a big difference going with 5160s? Also, am I going to regret the aal in terms of limited flex and a stiffer ride? Should I just wait and pick up a Dakar rear spring?

Input is appreciated from those who have done something similar....what's your setup? what do you like about it? what would you do differently if you could?

    Thanks!

I've got 885s up front, 5100s all around with a 1.5" AAL and I love it (don't find it stiff at all). I've also got 285/70-17s. At your price point I don't think you could go wrong with what you've chosen and if you could spend the few extra bucks I'd go for the OME shocks.

Did you have a 3 leaf or the 4 leaf spring in the rear prior to the aal?

Come on out to mod day at Eric's shop this weekend and you can check out all the setups for yourself (pretty sure all the setups you mentioned will be represented) and meet a few of the local members.

This is our local thread and has some details about this weekend. If you need more info shoot me a PM.

My setups details are linked in my sig but I don't think my style is what you're going for. What you've listed sounds good. OME 885s and Dakar FTW.
