First Toyota product I've owned. Purchased a 2008 Double Cab 2wd 4.0 V6 a little while back has 96k miles on it. Took it to get the oil changed today at the Toyota dealership and they told the valve cover gaskets where leaking down the back of the motor and total parts and labor was 700 dollars, parts only being like 65 dollars. I've never done a gasket replacement but fairly mechanically inclined with some direction. What to torque bolts down to things like that. Looked around on here and didn't find anything for the 4.0, anyone know of a good write up? Anything else I should do while in there as preventative maintenance? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for both responses. I am still trying to figure out what to torque everything down to. The diagram definitely helps.

If your going this far, you should just go ahead and do the XTP spacer mod

    Just found this:

    Upper intake 21ft-lbs,

I guess the dealer needed some money that day. I was told that my valve covers were leaking pretty good down the back of my motor and that my power steering and brake fluid were both black. I bought the pickup used about 8 months ago and carfax showed that it had been maintained since new at Don McGill Toyota in Katy, so I continued taking it there. My fluids were clear and not a drop of oil all the way around my valve covers. I will never return there. Ordered the parts and now feel stupid that I trusted them. Hope this information that has been gathered helps someone, and thanks for all the help.

I just did my valve covers this weekend. I thought I took my time and read everything carefully .. but it looks like I got my torque values backwards. I did the center bolts 84 in/lbs and the outer 80 in/lbs :facepalm:Should this be OK? I haven't seen any leaks anywhere.

not enough difference you could measure. I doubt your torque wrench is that accurate, in fact....

    You should be perfectly fine.

Can someone tell me how to release the wire harness connecters on the passenger side valve cover bolts? There are two of them, and right now they're kicking my as-. Thanks in advance!

Simply pry them up off the threaded stud with a screwdriver.
