Nice, saw a picture on FB last night :D

biggest improvement you'll see is with new tires. those BFGs are really just a cool looking street tire. they are pretty terrible off road unfortunately.

I'm gonna have to disagree. KM2's are IMHO the best all round tire for off road. They perform great in mud and even better in rocks. Hell the tred is damn near a copy of the Krawler which is arguably the best tire for the rocks out there.

Now on an RC car...I'm clueless.

They are a world difference from the old MTR, and I know several who have run the new MTR and the KM2 (both in 37" variety) and when they went to 40's it was the KM2 all the way.

    ZING!

My big gripe with them is not actually traction, but durability (talking full sized trucks here). Based on your pictures, it looks like your rocks in and around indiana are a little smoother than all of the way over on the east coast. I have seen more km2s sliced open, or missing entire lugs than any other tire. and that's not because more people run them than other tires either. I actually don't see many trucks with km2s anymore. been a whittness to destroyed km3s in FL (sharp lime stone), VA, and PA.

do you know if they change out the sidewall construction at a certain size for them? the hankooks im on are one of the lightest 35s out in this style tire, but as soon as you go to a 37 in them, they change it to a race sidewall, and all of the sudden, it's one of the heaviest. wonder if BFG does somehting similar with any of their tires, causing that switch you see above a certain size...

oh, and the RC KM2s suck simply because they use way too hard of a rubber compound. they are a stock tire on the Traxxas Slash, so they are intended to be run on the street and other harder terrains that would wear out a better off road tire quickly.

All my wheeling in the rocks is East coast lol. That's why I drive so far. Everything is in the Appalachians when I wheel. Only rocks in Indiana is the badlands and that's a limestone quarry so nothing smooth there either.

The sidewalls could definitely be stronger, but the traction is superior. Hell my buddy just bought a set of Maxxis Creepies last year and was pissed our first trip out after seeing how much better my tires hooked up.

My buddy Jonathon who ran both (Free KM2's one year and free MTR's the next on the Ultimate Adventure) said his "ultimate" tire would be the sidewall of the MTR Kevlar, and the tread of the KM2. Until someone makes that tire, I will hang on to my Discount Tire replacement certs and keep the traction.

But like I said, when he had to buy his 40's, he went KM2s. I did see him take out a sidewall on a small stick though, we attributed it to a previously damaged sidewall. I did hear that they changed the sidewall construction after the first year or so of production, but never looked into it.

That is my issue... my KM2's have always performed great but my sidewalls are shredded and my lugs are worse for wear. They still pefform great but the look like shit now. Had one blow on me and an basically waiting for the other 3 to go whenever...

minus the kevlar component, wouldn't the above essentially be a krawler?

keep in mind you spin them a lot more, with a manual transmission I4 on stock gears and no crawl box.

Not sure what you mean? The sidewall on the krawler looks exactly the same as the KM2. The only difference ins the compound and the tread is opened up a bit more.

Rocks=chunking. Unless the compound is ridiculously hard, then you give up traction.

Its all really mute, everyone will have different opinions on tires, its just kinda how it goes.

    I understand.

I was under the impression that the krawler had a different sidewall than the KM2, however, i haven't really looked into it beyond word of mouth information.

Maybe as far as construction/ply count but the tread and look is identical.

I searched around a while when I was looking for an all terrain and settled on the trenchers. so far I've been pleased. very durable tire that you're not going to burn up if you run it on concrete, but it grips pretty well in grass, and has large enough lugs to do well in mud. found out a couple of weeks ago that it does pretty terrible on the hard packed dirt at the race track, but that's where the race tires come into play.
