Rear view of 08 not "level"

Hello to all! 1st Tacoma and I love it except for one concern.

I've always been considered to be a bit to "anal", but some of you might be able to relate to my attention to DETAIL.

I noticed that my truck looks a bit un-level from side-to-side, not front to rear as that is expected on stock suspension. I measured the height from a level garage floor and the distance from ground to flare is 36" on drivers side and 36-3/4" on passenger side at the center of the rear wheels.

I've tried taking off toolbox, loading it differently, unloading it completely, but STILL SAME RESULTS!

Dose anyone else have this "problem"? Would the TSB on the leaf springs fix this? This bothers me becuase it makes my NEW truck look like it has some sort of defect!

 

Sorry, I foregot to add that I questioned that too! I measured it with varying levels of fuel but still got nearly the same results.

I would appreciate any personal measuring results if possible. I plan on consulting the dealer about this...but we all know how that goes.

There simply is more weight on the Drivers side. This is a VERY common thing.

 

It is refered to as the "Tacoma Lean." I have deliberately avoided measuring mine because I know that knowing the exact measurement would bother me. The Tacoma's are based on the Hi lux, which is a right hand drive vehicle. hence all the heavy shit ie battery, fuel tank, etc. are on the left hand side of the truck. Have an average person sit in your passenger seat and repeat your measurements, it should be nearly perfect.

the majority of tacomas have this, go to any tacoma site and type in "tacoma lean" or "tacoma tilt" and you'll find tons of post mentioning it

 

I just discoverd this on my '08--yesterday. I took the measurements after the TSB and Bilstein 5100s installed at 1.75. Mine is off by 1/2". This is ridiculous as the manufacturer could correct it with stiffer D/S springs.

Or you could just adjust your Bilsteins...

 

I offer a 1/2" solid spacer that bolts to the bottom of the leaf pack and corrects this lean in back. I also offer offset custom steel blocks to correct this for the guys that use blocks. They are welded inside and out and use grade 8 bolts for the pins, they are the strongest blocks on the market guaranteed....upgraded u-bolts too.

 

The next adjustment up would be 2.5, that's 3/4" more, which would then be higher on the D-side. I don't weigh enough to level out 1/4".

I love my truck but this is an example of the Toyota not giving a sh*t as long as their product sells. Prior to buying this Tacoma, I had seen others thta leaned but I attributed it to frame or spring damage. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that Toyota simply didn't attempt to correct the platform for the American market....

 

Maybe this design was on purpose by Toyota. If the majority of the roads are crowned; that is higher in the middle than the sides to facilitate drainage, the the truck would seem more level if the right side was slightly higher to offset teh slope of the road.

 

You beat me too it. I questioned the tech at the dealer and this is exactly what they claim the difference is for.

 

Just date/ marry a really fat chick... no more tilt.

 

I try to haul my scaffolding for work on the right side of the bed to counteract any lean.

 

That tech is BS'ing. I'm sure Toyota didn't put all that much thought into it. Also, apparantly not all Tacomas lean this way. Futhermore, the adjustments made during an alignment compensate for the crown in the road. Finally, the Hi Lux is right hand drive, wouldn't it look really goofy leaning the other way?
