3rd gen MPG?

All speculation I know, so let's not get carried away. But I found this article claiming a 7mpg increase. That would be fantastic, as long as the MSRP remains the same.

Have we seen similar improvements from other manufacturers switching to direct injection?

At the end, when we calculate all mentioned, we get : 2.5 MPG for the New Engine Technology, + 2 MPG for Transmission, + 1.25 on Weight drop and + 1.25 for Aerodynamics improvement, which gives total of + 7 MPG consumption. Current model of Tacoma (2012 year model, 2WD 4 cyl, 2.7 L, Manual 5-spd, Regular Gasoline) has fuel economy of 25 HW, 21 city and 22 combined. The 2015 and 2016 Tacoma could be at 32 MPG. If Toyota develop them as Hybrid, that could be easily converted to 37 MPG.
