$17k against full sticker price of their truck. I was negotiating toward the trade number though so the sale and trade price are all funny money in my opinion, just a shell game.

Meh, not really. I covered the closing costs with my bank account, but I got this house from a bank for under $100k because it needed some repairs. It was mostly burst plumbing and the surrounding sheetrock and floors. But also the bank was under the impression that the house needed a new boiler because the old one had crapped. I looked it over and it turned out that their HVAC guy was unscrupulous and had clipped a couple of wires leading to the unit and said it was unserviceable. Dunno if he was looking for an install job or what.
Plus the bank didn't know where the septic was or if it worked, where the well was, etc. I found and tested them both before we closed. The guy who owned it before had been in declining health for 5 years or so before he died, and then it sat vacant for a couple more years after that before the bank got around to selling it. Everything had grown in (we had saplings leaning over the back deck when we bought it).
Basically I spent the last year working my ass off around here, but the net result was that we've got a lot of positive equity after just 18 months in the place.

Sorry if I'm bragging here .
I may or may not be moderately proud about it...

Had my $.01 non-flipping phone since they switched to digital in ?2008? and it still works. And I've saved a similar amount by not having a data plan. to being fuddy-duddies.

Clean and tighten batt terminals, check grounds then check you alt if it's still doing it, sounds like the regulator is going out. Most likely a free fix. does it start fine?

You damn sure should be. I've rehabbed my upstairs (just 2 small rooms), living room, spare room..plus the mudroom/hallway. I can hang rock and lay floors, had to call a friend for electrical. Replaced all the windows over time as well.

The problem is I don't work fast. Took an average of 6 months/1 yr depending on the room.

Sadly I did increase the value short term but b/c I bought in 2004 I at best would break even on it today. Better than losing at least.
