Where is it on the truck? I have rust spots on both my passenger and driver side door. It's up by the window. I still haven't heard back from Toyota of what they are going to do, it's been two months. I think that I am going to phone them today and find out what they are going to do about it.

It looks like clear coat peeled off. It happened alot on late 90s cars often on the roof. It happens mostly in very sunny hot places. You could just sand it, touch it up with color match and clear it again. I woukd check to see if your paint is fading over the whole roof.

I wouldn't be surprised of rust on a OP's Tacoma that is 7 years old. Mine was only a year old and we found them. The Customer Service Person said "she found them on another Tacoma that was in the same area's but it was older.

Haha! So I just phoned the dealership that I was going through to find out what was going on. The person that I had dealt with went back to school and everyone kind of forgot to phone me.

Well Toyota isn't going to cover it because it was due to "environmental issues." The person at the dealership couldn't really tell me much exceptt that it could be due to salt, sand, gravel etc. Basically our winter conditions.

I wouldn't paint myself a good body man can , he could blend it , the rust probably comes from a faulty sprayer at factory, it didn't get coated well from the get go, just over time it showed its ugly head.

Wow...that sucks. I haven't noticed any paint issues on my 07.

Take it to a paint shop and have the roof (or section of) painted. They can blend it in. Besides...It's on the roof and the 'paint quality' won't be noticeable to anyone unless you're looking for it. Your highest priority right now, is getting that rust spot repaired or you'll have a hole in your roof.

I had that issue. I cleaned it as best as I could being careful not to mess with the good paint and clear coat. Then I plastidipped my roof bc it seals out moisture. Can't hurt

I just think that it sucks because the winters that we have here can't really be avoided. You can only wash your truck to a certain negative tempature. I wouldn't want to be outside in -30, -40C washing my truck to keep the rust down. Just disappointed in Toyota that my truck was 13 months old and they wouldn't do anything. I could understand if it was on one door but since it's on two. I don't know. Just a little surprised.

I have an 05' Pre-Runner. Got the same issue on my roof and above the window on the driver's side door. Just got bigger and bigger. Had a body guy sand it down to bare metal and paint it. Looks like nothing ever happened. Just crappy paint on some years I guess

Post some pics of what happened. Did the rust come from gravel taking chunks out of the paint or is it something else?

That sucks. The roof gets the worst beating from the sun and most people forget to wash up there properly. See what your options are, you don't want it eating holes because you'd need an umbrella on your drive to work. GL.

Wax-on, wax-off, few times a year stops things like this.

Agreed, I've always liked (at least) one right after the salt season is over and one right before it begins.

It's -41C with the windchill right now. I am so not going outside to take some pictures. I will do it tomorrow when the sun is out. It might be below -30C by mid afternoon.

I found another one today when I was looking around again. Looks like a zit. Just frustrated. I do paint pen checks in the spring and in the fall. I didn't notice them then. Part of me thinks that in the picture, my truck was dirty. I am sure they are blaming it on that to an extent. For anyone who lives in Calgary knows the freeze/thaw that we have here. Sometimes it's hard to keep our vehicles clean.

Jesus.... I have to move out there when I finish my degree... Definitely not looking forward to the -40s.

As for OP he needs to get it repainted sooner than later because it only going to get worse and worse until it does get fixed.

Yeah! It's suppose to be in the plus double digits on Saturday. Big difference from the minus teens to the 40's that we have been getting pretty much all this winter. We don't know how long it's going to last, I know for 2 days. Yeah! Coming from Vancouver is going to be a big change in weather. I came from the Southern interior so I am use to the snow, not so much the cold.

    Back to the original post.

I took more pictures today when I got home. I had found more rust spots. Toyota Canada got ahold of the other day and told me that it's up to the dealership if they cover it or not. Well, I was told from the dealership that it was upto Toyota Canada. So being told two different things I am not impressed. Either way, they aren't going to cover it so I'm pissed. I checked the rest of the truck over and there is no rust anywhere else, just on the doors.

I posted some pictures below. I took them with my Iphone so I hope that you guys can see them. I hope that you can avoid it like I wasn't able to. The first two pictures(coming from left to right) are the drivers and the last two are the passenger door.
