So I finally got around to getting new threaded billy 5100's so I can put my Toytec coilovers back together and ditch the stock setup with top plate spacer. This is what had happened to my coilovers http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/236371-toytec-coilover-failure.html

    So the new billy's arrived:

Than I painted up the coils and top plate as they were looking pretty beat up from the couple winters of road salt. Got them back together:

As you can see in that pic I have them adjusted as low as possible so it was easier to compress the spring. I installed them on my truck like that with the intent of adjusting them once installed.

Not wanting to experience the kind of failure I had last time I took Toytec's advise and measured from hub to fender to see if I was over the 23'' mark they said you should not exceed. Well with no adjustment at all I'm over 23''. No body lift or anything like that. I realize the coilovers haven't settled yet so they are going to lower a bit. I sent an email to Toytec asking how much thread is usually showing below the lock nut when shipped and they said about 1''. So just for shits and giggles I went out last night and put the passenger side to 3/4'' and the driver to 1'' (even that doesn't make it level, so I have a pretty nasty taco lean). Obviously this gave me well over the 23'' measurement, but the front end still doesn't look like it's very high to me.

Today I'm going to play around with adjustment some more. I also have to find a more level surface because my snow packed gravel driveway isn't the most ideal place for taking accurate measurements.

So does everyone find themselves sticking around the 23'' hub to fender measurement after lifts?

After driving it around for a while on bumpy roads things have settled a bit and I'm sure they are still going to settle some more. Passenger side is right about 23'' maybe a tad higher but the driver is about 22 3/4''. I have the driver adjusted so there's about 1.2'' of thread showing and the passenger only has about 0.6'' showing. I'm kind of hesitant to keep cranking the driver side up.

the hub to fender measurement HAS to go up with a suspension lift. that's the point. so I don't understand why toytec said not to exceed 23" height when you're obviously going to.

The stock hub to fender measurement is supposedly 20''. That's why they say not to exceed 23''.

Seems a little low but I don't really want to chance it. $500 for replacement shocks is an expensive lesson. My passenger side is sitting at about 23'' with only 0.6'' of adjustment on the coilover.
