With this new pup, I trained him to like his bed. He will gp there and stay there at night without me saying a thing. It is very nice. It really pays to train a lot, the dogs Love it and are so darn smart. just a few minutes and they learn. So, that is my advice.
I took the pup to one class and the Lady trainer used him as an example, because she said he was a 2 Star General (thick headed) she taught him to wait while she went out the door. The whole class watched. That dog still knows "Wait" and that is sure nice! To have him running out the door every time. Mine are Garage/house dogs. Good Luck with that handsome puppy.
oh, I do not use dog food anymore, I buy the raw meat, costs about $80/month but way better for them. Cheers.

Thanks! I've heard a couple other good luck stories about last pups of the litter. Her and her family thought this one would go first for sure so I guess it was meant to be haha

Awesome input. I think when the time comes I'll bring her to some classes. I have some friends with well trained pups so I think it'll be no problem getting her on the right track. Where do you purchase your meat from? Just somewhere locally?

At such a young age, consider crate training. Riley's bed is in his crate (he also has one in the living room). When he was tiny, I kept him in his crate except to play, eat, and pee. Every couple of hours, I'd take him out and tell him to pee. If he did, he got a treat and a "good boy!". Pretty soon, we'd go outside, I'd tell him to pee and he would. Sometimes we play ball for a bit too (still do) as a reward.

Over time, they learn to hold it for longer periods of time and you can let them have more room in the house. The crate remains a haven and you can either leave it open (I do this) for the dog to go in and out of as they please.

The key to potty training is giving them the opportunity to pee outside. BTW, it's beneficial to take them out on a leash. Also (and at least in the first few months), you need to get up in the middle of the night to take them out once or twice.

There's a slight chance puppies will cry when you crate them. The not so obvious way to stop this is to put the crate right next to your bed which lets them know you're right there.

The beauty of the crate is it becomes a sanctuary. If you want to vacuum, crate 'em up and away you go. You have guests, in the crate (if you don't like dogs, it's no likely I'm gonna put mine outside--but if he becomes a PITA, I will.). Riley spends some time in his each day, his choice.

Spend the time to do the potty training correctly (and adhere to a feeding schedule) and you'll have a well trained pup and very few accidents-not to brag but Riley's had two or three accidents in his nearly five years-and those are my fault for not taking him out (all of them happened when he was young).

    Oh. Take lots of pictures!

She likes to remove the caps from bottles. I should mention the caged area isn't where she stays. That was temporary for her while I was washing the truck.

I think thats a good idea i probably will start crate training her. i have a small area next to my bed blocked off with newspapers and a spot for her to lay down but she manages to climb up onto the bed since i only have it sitting on the boxspring on the floor lol. But like you said i always have her on the leash when i take her out every 2 hours or so and tell her "good girl" with a pet when she goes. Thanks for the input its very helpful!

    You're welcome!

It might seem harsh to some but it does give your puppy structure and they do like that-even if it means getting up at 0530 so she can go potty (I started mine on the 0600, 1200, and 1800 feeding which sort of defined his "schedule"-so he wants to poop before he eats) :D

Puppies are crazy... Good luck. Def crate train, structure and socialization with dogs and humans. Give a puppy an inch and they'll take a mile!! Mine is a nut with dog fear issues currently in resocialization... she is 10 months now, and getting much better about other dogs, but you def want to catch those time sensitive training periods!!

I'll take this opportunity to show off my fav lil pup again :)

    As a puppy, 8weeks:

In the taco! And she is bigger than his head now.

Good call on the schedule haha i have a couple alarms set on my phone for feeding times so i can keep on top of it a little better.

Most definitely! My older lab has always had social issues with other dogs and i dont want her have the same problems. Between a house with 3 other dogs my friends' dogs she's already getting used to seeing other people and dogs regularly, so i think so far shes getting off to a good start!

Since your pup hasn't had all her puppy shots yet, keep her exposure to only dogs you know have had all theirs and don't show any signs of being sick.

:goingcrazy: getting up at 6 am to feed the pup  BTDT

Posted him before but this picture...

Plumb tuckered pup after a 5m hike/run (probably closer to 8 for him being off leash).

As well... anyone in the SF bay area that needs dog training, I highly recommend CaliK9. We've been working with Nicco there for almost a month and a half and Mr. Bojangles is like a new dog :D
