iTTL is great when shooting on-camera and you're bouncing under inconsistent conditions.
I took about 100 shots of my buddy's 50th birthday party, all using the Lightsphere with the white dome, flash aimed straight up.
Works like a champ with my SB800 or SB400.
My Sigma meters properly when pivoted for direct, but when I move it up to bounce it, the camera meters as if the flash is not there.

But for a scene that you are setting up, you can move the camera into manual (or leave it in P and use exposure/flash compensation), and bracket in until you've got the exposure nailed down. That's the beautiful thing about digital.

From there, you now know what settings you need for that lighting situation. Everything else will be very close.

Transmitter on the camera, slap the receiver on a tripod mount, and fire as many flashes as you can afford tripods for.

That's why I recommended the newest of them. I've been thinking of buying a couple to try out. I'm using a Nikon SB-910 now with the Nikon CLS system triggering it.

I've been really impressed with the Pixel brand remote trigger (Shutter / time lapse) I've had over a year with not one single problem out of it. They make flash triggers too.

 

You should keep shooting planes. Really cool shot.

SFO has a park that's parallel to 28R but I've heard you might receive a visitor if you're parked too long. There's a Lowe's parking lot nearby SJC so when they're landing, it's all good. PAO (general aviation) is fairly easy access and there a a number of cool planes there.

Then there's always the backyard...


Look at the left wing-specifically where the strut joins the wing...lol.

I got cactus v5's omg they're so much better than the older ones. I was gonna get yongnuo rf603's and then the v5's came out I was like YOOO bought em.

 

I've heard good things about those triggers too.
