I took my taco to the dealer once because the brakes felt really uneven when pressure was applied. Especially when coming to a stop at lower speeds. Not a lot of steering wheel rattle either. The dealership machined the rotors and threw on new brake pads and sent me on my way.

Almost immediatly they started doing the same thing. So I thought I'd ride it out and see what happened. After a month I went back in to get the TSB spings and then have them fix the brakes again. This time they threw on new rotors and pads. Dealer said there was a TSB out for a better rotor (one that I haven't heard of before on any thread..any help here?) and sent me on my way. He said I also might be feeling some uneven braking due to the 33's I have with aggressive tread (Toyo MT's).

My long-winded point/question here is, is this brake sensation normal? Why am I feeling pulsating and uneven sensation in the braking action, like a small lurching? What else could it be besides the rotors and pads? It's not the ABS is it??

The front brakes on these trucks are sub-par. I replaced the front rotors and pads about 3 months after buying the truck new and have had zero problems since.

Call RaceShopper.com, get yourself the slotted rotors and Hawk pads, install them yourself in no time flat (seriously, it's cake!), and be on your way. You can thank me later.

You won't find cheaper prices for their level of quality and they ship FAST. I've ordered components from them for about 15 vehicles over the past 8 years and have *never* received a wrong part. Also never had rotor issues after installing their parts.

I've had this very same problem since my truck was new....Same deal, they machined the rotors and said it was fixed, which it was for about two days.I've been waiting until I need an oil change and I was going to address it along with my noisy fan blower motor. This time I'll be demanding new pads and rotors.

I'm on the 2nd month (500 miles) driving my Taco and the only problem with the brakes is the soft feel. The brakes seem to be way to soft with long travel to get complete stop.... Yes I am relating this to firearm trigger pull, I like my brakes like I like my trigger system...crisp and reliable.

I'm just not sure what they can do, if anything after replacing rotors and pads. I guess I can have the parts guy drive around with me in the passenger side to feel for himself. Otherwise I'm kind of at a loss here. Brakes feel very "grabby"

My 06 has great brakes, but then again I am pretty conservative when I get behind the wheel, slower than most.

I don't think I fit into the "conservative driver" mold exactly. ;) I've got a pretty heavy foot. But then I shouldn't be feeling this in my brakes after having them replaced last Friday either. There's the rub..

I agree... I would have the dealer make them right which = safe :D

mine seem pretty good to me, other than them squealing for the first few stops after its been parked for a while. maybe some of the pull that you are getting is from grooves in the road? out here in snow country the studded tires on cars wear a groove in, and with a more aggressive tire and slightly wider offset on my wheels, i tend to get a pull. it goes away on flat road though, so i know that its not the truck, its the pavement and my tires/wheels.

I had the same problem. I had the dealer replace the rotors, but I still feel the same sensation when stopping. I was wondering if it has something to do with the tranny down shifting as I slow down.

I agree with you chris...it seems like it takes way to long to stop at high speeds and low. it almost seems like i stop better when i'm pulling my 5000lbs boat because it had brakes on it. I went from a car which had all disc brakes which stoped on a dime to this truck which doesn't....but i was also told that the tacoma has disc only in back and drum in front....is this true? if so, is this why it seems to take a while to stop? Chris were you able to remedy this?

its annoying and i feel unsafe when i have to stop quickly....very uneasy feeling

You've got it backwards, the front's the discs, and the rear are the drums. I was surprised to see that Toyota didn't put discs front and back on these trucks. oh well.

    Read my post above.

The above upgrade will probably come in under $200 for slotted rotors and Hawk pads. It'll knock 20 feet off your 60-0 stopping distance and you'll most likely never have to replace your rotors again.

As for rear discs, I've got 'em but they're not cheap.

The rear conversion kit will run you a grand. Get the front done and you'll be more than satisfied. My needs are a bit out of the ordinary which is the only reason I swapped to rear discs.
