so im looking to purchase a welder to start doing my SUA and a bed cage. most likely get a new one from lowes. im looking at this one and wondering if there are any cons to it.
    http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay...gId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1
its a cheaper one so i can afford gas and all the saftey stuff easier.
there is also this one they have
    http://www.lowes.com/pd_256722-1703...L=?Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=
    a little more.

im new at this so all help is welcome

Just a heads up on your choices. On the higher end machine there is a little more for your money by going with this setup and is a great company and good warranty. Check this one out http://store.cyberweld.com/twfa14miwew1.html and if ya have any questions let me know. I own some of the same company equipment called Thermal Dynamics. Victor owns this company and tweco.

I recommend staying away from the first choice (Handy Mig) as the heat range settings are switches and not a reo-state. which limits the fine tuning of your heat range and the fact is their not as durable.

    However:
The second welder (MigPak 140) is an excellent choice for any home hobbiest.

I have quite a few friends with this identical model which they all use on a regular basis. None of them have ever had any issues.
also worth mentioning is that replacement consumables are available almost anywhere.

    Good luck

I wouldn't go anywhere named "grinding school". Got to be the worst name for a welding school I've heard. lmao :D

Below is a list of options to get you started, depending on what type of fabrication you plan on doing.

A good is essential whether you build it yourself or buy one.

With regards to clamps and magnets those are one of those things you can never have enough of and you may find yourself buying a couple more each visit to the store. LOL

As for safety gear; everyone has their own preferences; welding gloves, sleeves with apron vs full coat etc...
An helmet with adjustable shade is invaluable.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas...

Good luck and look forward to seeing some welding job pics. :)

Note: I only used harborfreight as an example for the hyperlinks below.

    Cheers

Awesome video, just goes to show you how much potential hidden energy is contained in a compressed gas cylinder.

Reminds me of the crazy videos they used to show during my apprenticeship days many years ago..

Been lurking for a bit now. I do as much of the welding on my rig as I can get away with. Sometimes I just don't have the time and have to outsource to some tried and tested products.
For now I have been toying with the idea of welding my own shackle flip mounts. These are just me toying around. I really can't put the time in right now to put this to use but if it comes down to it, I will definitely put this to use.

Made some progress on the bumper as, got everything tacked together. Up next, cut and install the hitch receiver tube, and then fully weld everything and grind smooth, a final fitment and then paint!

How do they compare with weiller Tiger Discs? Besides the obvious price difference. I've never found anything as good as a tiger disc
