In your home state of NJ windshield damage falls under your comprehensive portion of your vehicular insurance so unless you carry a zero deductible or don't care if your rates go up it would be stupied to claim a $200 item IMHO.

I chose to pay for my own replacement out of pocket because I was better off.

I may be in this boat soon. Had a rock chip turn into a crack this morning. Hopefully I can get it contained before it spreads

 

That's why I called my insurance immediately to get a rock chip I had filled. Chips are free to fix... windows are not.

Sux man sorry to hear it. I always get the repairs then just pay out of pocket when it gets too bad. My 2012 is on it's 3rd screen. I've found a local place that does it for $160.

You have a $50-100 deductible? New glass shouldn't be much more than $200.....or are you bullshitting us?

If your deductible is that low Id raise your deductible to $500 and use the left over money you save from doing so to 'up' your coverage if it's lower then 300k.

 

In MA, one free windshield a year.
