Water Spigot Mod! Eh?

Ever been camping or fishing at a remote spot and though of how much easier it would be to wash things up if you had a faucet instead of a jerrycan or whatever? I had a great idea for mounting an on-board water supply in one of the bed sides then putting a faucet near the rear of the bed.

Here's a simple illustration of the concept:


The two pipes going up would be for filling, venting air, or cleaning. If you have on-board air you could use it to pressurize the system for better water pressure when the tank is low. Would mount it on the side opposite the gas tank. Maybe put some baffles in the pipe to minimize the inertial effect of sloshing.

Thoughts?

 

Depending on how wide a pipe you can stick up there (or using multiple pipes), I bet you could get a good 20 gal.

 

Meh, I need to measure, but I think it's feasible. I probably would do it even if it was only 5 Gal.

 

If you made it 15 gal it would weight about the same as the gas tank.

 

Back in the early 1960's I knew this grizzled old Jeeper down in Arizona that filled his spare tire with water. He said that way he'd always have extra water if he broke down out in the desert.

I'm not sure how that water would taste, but then if you're dying in the desert you wouldn't be too picky.

It's funny...but I haven't thought of that old guy in probably 40 years (he's probably been dead since the 80's) but I wonder if he ever had to drink that tire water. :?

It might be a good idea to use a ball valve instead of a regular spigot. Then mount it inside the small bed compartment with a small hose.

 

make sure you get the TSB.. thats gonna be an extra 100 lbs..

 

True, but you'd have that much water in your bed anyway if you went camping.

I do have the TSB so I think it could easily handle it.

Those work, but I don't like having to lug 'em around for filling or using. Plus, they have a tenancy to slide around in the bed. None of which is THAT big of a deal, but if there was a better option I'd take it...

 

I i hate lugging it around too! Maybe you could make a carrier for it to sit in that way it doesn't move around in the bed.

 

Great idea, I would have to check my stock of pvc pipes remains.

This will solve me a problem..............
