Haha yes sir. All the tire issues will be resolved today at work, and If I don't have time to paint the bumper I'll live, and as long as my parents don't make me pay my phone bill yet I should be good on $$$

 

Well I was supposed to get in early today after work, change oil and look up where I can find a transmission mount since mines broken...now I gotta process some dope and write some reports for the next 2 hours...

If any of you fine gentlemen know what that part number is or where I can find it while I'm finishing up at work that'd be freakin awesome! I gotta buy this thing today hopefully

 

Transmission mounts are for pansies. Just kidding. Hope you can get that resolved.

Well, 5 cans of waterproofing spray later... the RTT is now hermetically sealed. One full can just for the top rainfly. The other 4 are soaked into the entire tent. Did a quick water pour test on it yesterday and that shit was like RainX. I tried rubbing water into the material and it just wouldn't soak in. It will probably be bone dry this weekend, but at least now it's set for the season. Shop vac'd all of the dust and debris out of it, shook out the mattress, and loaded up the bedding. Just gotta mount it and the awning, pre-ice the cooler on Thursday, and load up.

Also went out behind New River yesterday to check out some old Indian ruins and got the truck nice and muddy. Found tons of pottery shards and some cool black volcanic rock chunks. The truck's newly renovated suspension rode like a champ out there and was so smooth.

So ready for this weekend. Only 2 more work days after today, then a nice 4 day weekend.

 

What kind of water sealant did you use Adam?

 

I remember having a very long conversation with Bobby from CVT about doing that. The RTT's are not supposed to be sprayed with any water sealer according to him, it would make condensation issues much worse than they are. Apparently there was no problem with applying it to the rain fly though

 

Well that's good to know, glad you chimed in with that before I went crazy! What's good to use for the rain fly?

 

I'm sure any spray on water sealer from REI or sportsmans or Summit Hut would work just fine

I used the Scotch Gard spray stuff. I've used it on the last 3 tents, including my tent cot (which also always had bad condensation issues even before waterproofing.

Yep, I'm prepped for that and expecting condensation especially with 2 people and it being sealed with silicon now. The condensation issue with my tent cot just taught me to ventilate better, and the nice thing about the RTT is that there are those awnings over 2 of the windows which protects from pouring rain while allowing you to half unzip one of your windows and leave the screen closed for ventilation.

I just don't want a long overnight saturating rain to start soaking in and wicking moisture into the floor of the RTT and soaking the mattress. I'm ok with dealing with condensation because I'm already used to managing it. It will be a good overall test to see how heavily waterproofing it really works or if I'm going to wake up to an inside ceiling full of condensation ready to shower down on me.

At least the spray breaks down over time and will eventually wear down in case it creates issues.

Also, I started using my UCO candle (in the aluminum protected candle holder) in my larger tents and it not only increases tent temps by about 8 degrees but it also really helps fight condensation while being "safe" to burn even in a closed tent.

 

Jason and I have camped in RTT's in the rain for long hours and days and I have never seen it soak through.
