Thought this might be of use to the group: http://synthetic-dealer.blogspot.com/2014/03/gear-up-1.html

I used the different how to guides on TacomaWorld to get through my recent 60k maintenance check (changed all drivetrain fluids) and thought I would consolidate the key aspects (oil type, tools, torque settings etc).

Truth in advertising, I relate all fluids to Amsoil since my wife is a dealer (and I highly recommend the product :) )

Let me know what you think!

So uhhh... Dumb, possibly off topic question... I'm skeptical of a filter that says its good for 1 year or 15k miles... How does it do a good job at filtering AND keep oil flowing well after 15k miles? (I'm a OEM filter kinda guy)

A filter change is required at 1 year or 15,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Just like your OEM filter is a 6 month or 5,000 mile, whichever comes first requirement. The difference with Amsoil is if you run a Signature Series Oil (which has a 1 year or 25,000 mile change requirement) and you exceed 15k miles on the filter you still have time left on the oil, all you have to do is change the filter (and get another 10k or until the end of the year out of it before the next oil change). If you fall into the "Severe Service" category the Signature Series has a 1 year or 15k requirement, matching up with the filter requirement.

I don't put over 15k on my truck in a year so it basically means a once a year oil change for me - which I like and ends up being cheaper. I do put over 10k though which would mean 3 changes a year on the OEM schedule. Not a big deal but once a year is easier for me.

Amsoil Ea filters use a synthetic media which are designed to have increased filter efficiency combined with reduced flow restriction and are guaranteed for the advertised extended service life. Amsoil filters with the EaO designation are designed to match the 1 yr/ 25k requirement but the Tacoma filter is an Ea15k type, thus the 1yr/15k requirement.

Amsoil states that you can run your OEM filter if you desire and while the 1yr/25k guarantee remains for the oil, you must still change the filter in accordance with OEM standards which would be 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Did that answer the question? I had to wrap my head around all this at first too before I bought into the Amsoil extended change intervals - sorry for the dissertation :)

i dont find it too unusual. i mean.. im still crazy and change the fluid in my 1000RR every 2000 miles.. but my mom got a beetle brand new in 2002 and the oil change was once every 10,000 miles. that was 12 years ago, oil technology has certainly made advances since then.

3 months and 3000 miles is antiquated. thanks for the pos! i just ordered a 1gr 6sp. ill keep it in mind
