That doesn't make sense. You say you see the blue smoke when you first start in the morning. Exhaust should be cold, If their explanation were correct you should see smoke as the exhaust heats up. Basically they're telling you it's normal, which is the answer I expected. Keep an eye on it and if it persists over the next few months, bring it back.

Any changes OP? I bought my tacoma new and never experienced any oil burn on cold starts.

    Blue smoke = oil issue
    Black smoke = fuel

    Take it back ASAP.

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't seen anymore blue smoke in a week. I have been looking for it but nothing.

my 11 did this a coupla times when new, usually as described previously when it ran for 30 seconds, sat for a while, then started up again. such as backing it out of garage to wash or what not. havent seen a sign of it in over a year.

you have 60k of power train, i wouldnt be too worried at this point. as previously stated, keep an eye on it :)

Update. My truck now has 7200 miles on it. At 6500 I started getting a bad knocking in the engine. And the dealer looked at it and said its normal. BS it sounded like a diesel. Today (cold start) I got a bellow of blue smoke. In park at 1500 RPM's I have a miss/vibration in the engine. It's scheduled to go to the dealer I bought it from Sunday evening so they can see it at a cold start.

Thanks for the update but I hate you're still having the problem. Something definitely isn't right. I hope they get it figured out and it is nothing serious.

Oh... and I guess a update since your last post. I bought a 13 and (so far) haven't had any issues or blue smoke.

Mine is also a 13 and I definitely don't experience any smoke on start up. I hope they find out what's wrong OP. Sucks to have to deal with this in a new vehicle.

Thanks. At this point I kinda hope the engine blows. I'm tired of hearing "it's normal". I took video of it knocking and the one dealer looked at me like I was crazy.

That sucks. Most dealers are total asses. Have you tried dealing with Toyota corporate and starting a resolution with them?

Whoops. Only read the first page of your thread. Your problem is not normal!

Tug-- I've got 7200 miles on it and have formed a knock and miss/vibration.

Rear view-- I posted the video on another thread I started about 13 knocking engine. I got mixed responses

Did the morning puff go away for a while? Mine stopped at about 500miles and hasn't come back. I now have 2600miles on. Just wondering if I should be worried about future problems.

Tug. The first time I noticed it my truck had about 400 miles on it. I'd keep an eye on it.

oh I will keep an eye on it now. But, I think we have two different things going on. Mine puffed from day one and gradually got better over time until around 500miles where it completely disappeared. Yours sounds like something went wrong in your engine (top end) early in life and is gradually getting worse.
