Ok, so i got a letter from our ISP today stating that a 3rd person agent blah blah blah has reported that i have been illegally downloading blah blah blah. so why do i think this is retarded? because i got busted by NBC for downloading a TV show that they air on public air waves. I started wathging "Kings" but i dont watch nbc on saturday night and i dont have tivo or anything, so i just downloaded it. well they are all pissed off and threatening to terminate out account. wtf. they give the show away for free! i just happened to download it instead of watching it on TV. does this make sense to anyone? i could understand getting busted for downloading something that cost money.

anyway, on a completely unrelated note.... i have peer guardian 2 but obviously dont know how to use it. anyone wanna spell that one out for me?

I got busted at school for torrents. You only get caught for UPLOADING, not down loading. If you want some extra protection turn uploads off. I believe it will slow down your downloads, but will keep you from getting caught.

I had to attend a seminar for my infraction. It was like prison, you get all the pirates in one room to discuss how not to get caught, and we all came out virtually untouchable :D

I do have an invite on a private torrent track if you want it

An easier solution would be to stop stealing copyrighted material.

    Lots.
    X2:rolleyes:

I don't like buying from iTunes but I deal with it.

Stealing music threatens the livelihood of the thousands of working people, from recording engineers to record-store clerks, who are employed in the music industry.

It's not just stealing from millionaire artists and studios.

Weather the law is right or wrong, it's still the law. I'd hate for someone to be made an example of and do 5-10 for downloading PokeMon cartoons.

I dont really feel any sympathy for them. Note that I have only dabbled in downloading movies and TV shows. I use netflix first, but anything that isn't on there I consider downloading. With it costing $7 to rent a movie and $15 to see one in theatres, I wonder who is stealing from who

The cost of the shows you watch are subsidized through commercial time. It's not free. When you torrent it you're removing advertising.

    That's the logic.

Use hulu.com, not sure if that specific show is on there but that's NBC's place for watching tv online legitimately.

    edit: Yup it's up there

You can watch all the episodes of Kings on Hulu.com without any drama of downloading illegally.

That is an interesting point. With gas being the price it is, it would be a tough argument to pump and run without paying.

Sure the music industry is greedy as hell. What's nice though, is it is a dying industry. With the price of digital equipment being so cheap and the internet giving unlimited free marketing, there will soon be no need for the big labels.

So many good artists bypass the whole industry producing, recording, and releasing their album by them self.

I completely understand ND's point, and think its a bunch of shit. How is the general public suposed to know what can be downloaded, and what cant? I KNOW....Read the fine print or whatever the fuck....BS! I dont read shit when I watch TV, and if I miss something, I search the Computer for it. If these people want to cry about their shit being downloaded then they should do something about it themselves. If I leave a pistol on my patio with a sign that says "If you shoot yourself, its your ass, Not mine"...and someone does it...ITS MY ASS.

Meh....I may be way off, but I ate some Krylon paint this morining.

But how much do you think Movie Theaters/blockbuster pays Universal Studios to show/rent there film. It has to be insane amounts of money.

    Well let me clarify;
I got busted for something somebody else downloaded on my network. I was the one responsible, so I had to go to a class or something. Nothing I did, but something somebody else did.

Ok ok I will come clean. This is just a stupiud way I justify doing it, but with musicians who I love the music, but hate their character, I feel no remorse illegally precurring files. Bands like Avenged sevenfold who I LOVE and love everything they stand for, I go out of my way to purchase their CD's, DVD's etc. Ask me if it makes me feel like a man or what not. Sorry to anyone else who makes money off of the sales, but you assosiate with shitbag bands, then I care less if yoyu are losing money.

Gas is a completely different topic and tough for an analogy. Those prices are dictated by many more factors. Movies are dictated by a few CEO's and nothing more.

It is a vicious cycle though. We want to get free matierial that loses the industry money, so they want to raise prices to honest costomers. In turn the higher prices make us want to pirate more.

Not saying what I do is right, or that two wrongs make a right, just letting you all know where I am coming from

When CD's were introduced, even at that point they were cheaper to produce than LP's. Yet ... the real pirates (big labels) raised the price of the medium as it was more desireable than LP's.
Not the least bit sorry to hear they are suffering for such arrogance.
I see Napster et al as a groundswell revolt - like the Boston Tea Party.

I do use iTunes. Not because I have altruistic intentions for the revenue, but because it is a way to get just the tracks I want, and know the media is virus free. Yet there are labels who refuse to participate in Apple's distribution model.

Now if Apple could have some real competition to get downward pressure on prices ... we'd all win.
