Tacoma Spring refurbishing

Found me some leaf springs to build my packs.

 

Had a shop do my diamond cuts and they did a terrible job. What are your guys suggestions for cleaning them up and making nicer edges?

 

How'd they manage to f them up?

Hopefully they didn't use a plasma cutter or torch...

 

I think they used a plasma cutter. Looked terrible I went back and asked them to clean it up. They're a well known four wheel drive shop for my little town and I didn't expect that type of work from them. Talked to the owner and he apologized for his workers poor judgment and said he'll fix them. Hopefully they'll look better tomorrow when I pick them up.

 

I hope they didn't.. That's spring steel.

I know plasma isn't ideal but it really doesn't create that much heat especially compared to a torch. If you don't have a grinder now is a good time to get one.

 

No, it's not a deal killer & I'd use a plasma cutter as a last resort but you have to at least clean up the ends, which apparently that shop didn't do, probably should shitcan whoever did the cut & left it unfinished tho'...

Pretty damned rough, you might suggest to them not to provide this service if this is the best they can do...seriously...

Man that looks like shit. They would be refunding my money on that. Im not sure if you're up to but an angle grinder at walmart is like 30.00 and some good cut off wheels and maybe you can fix it.

It looks like one side is longer on each btw. Or is that just me and being blind in one eye right now?

 

That's what I was thinking. Do people not take pride in their work? I guess not. Luckily I have some extra leafs and I may be able to just do these myself. I'd have to go on base to the auto shop and do them. Hopefully they have a grinder and maybe I'll just buy a bunch of cut off wheels and do them. Hope the wife won't be too mad about spending some together time doing it

Seems like I see this more & more (half ass'd on finished products)

I mean my shit is far from perfect, but I do everything personally by hand & I can tell you no way in hell would I give that to a customer as a finished job, sorry that happened to ya bro'... I'm sure you could do it yourself with a $25 4" angle grinder & some cutoff wheels from harbor freight & I'm usually here for tech support as well, so don't be afraid to jump into it if you feel you're up to it...

(it ain't rocket science after all haha)
