maybe i'll get another group shot tonight with all of the new stuff/changes. :p

btw, i already started designing a track for the new house. It's actually got a sizable front yard, meaning that the back yard is a little smaller than i thought (total acorage is the same as expected though). so the design had to change a little to acomodate, but it should be good fun. and still plenty of room for a crawler course.

What'd you go with? Sounds like a Hubsan X4, perhaps.

Nice! You got the improved version, right? I think Amazon had one for like $48 and another for $54. Just want to be sure you got the newest one as I know a lot of people ended up with the older model.

I took the plunge on the DJI Phantom 2 Non-Vision last weekend. Super nice machine so far, although I have yet to fly it. Been reading all of the literature on it and watching even more videos on it than I did before I bought it.

For a step up from the Hubsan X4, I recommend the UDI U818A, also on Amazon. Comes with a 480p camera and 2GB microSD card for $90. Fun little guy, too. Easily flies outside in <8mph windows, at least that's been my max. Flew it one day with 9-11mph and had to completely cut the throttle and let it free fall to prevent it from being carried away with a good gust.

Those Hubsan quads are a BLAST - you'll love it.

Here are two videos I took with my UDI U818A, the quad that led me to the DJI Phantom 2 as the next logical step up.

    http://youtu.be/-oCcPAwelck

    http://youtu.be/wUEaJec-MAs

Don't judge me for the amateur video editing that I did with Movie Maker, mmk? :p

The UDI has a fixed camera with no gimbal or anything, thus the incredibly shaky flight. There's a spot in the second video where I'm at about peak altitude when the wind starts to carry me away. You'll notice the nose dive sharply, which is me cutting throttle to put it into a free fall so the wind didn't carry it out of radio range. At $90, it could have been worse, but I would have been bummed if I lost it.

That phantom is a pretty slick machine...my buddy got the one with the stable gopro mount and the video is pretty damn impressive. ..he also rigged a screen to his controller and sees what the gopro sees realtime

New shots of the collection. Only one not pictured is the phantom, because it's in pieces, getting the FPV system worked on.

Told the fiancé she needed an RC of her own, and she said that they don't make them for girls, so I painted a new body for her. She said she liked it and would give the hobby a shot when we both get to MD. I figure if I can get her hooked, then the backyard track possibilities are endless :D

Thinking about upgrading my radio and receiver in my wraith...no issues so far with the stock stuff, but i'm adding some lights that I don't necessarily want on all the time and I'm planning on eventually adding another truck and it'd be nice to just have 1 radio for both trucks

My buddy suggested the Spektrum DX3C which comes with a SR300 receiver, and then adding a 2nd receiver

Pretty budget friendly at $99 for the radio and 1st receiver and then $50 for a 2nd waterproof receiver

Thoughts? I really only think I'm gonna need to be able to run a couple different trucks (and this one can do like 20) and I'm gonna want to run a couple different light sets on my wraith with on/off capability

if all you need is 3 channels, the dx3c is a nice one. very tunable, and easy to use/navigate menus. I use it for a couple of mine, but make sure that they are all different categories of RC, that way, I can go out with friends, and have different transmitters for all the ones that run similar terrain to one another.

currently run it for the crawler and jato. most likely use it on the boat when I upgrade to brushless. odds are none of those will be running at the same time, so it's ok to not have individual transmitters

makes sense, but I'll likely only have the wraith and a crawler...and MAYBE a boat one day eventually...won't be running any combo of the 3 at the same time unless i get stupid and build a trailer and drag the crawler with the wraith and then unload it at my rocks

and re: the post below...how's the range for you?

    range issues? like how bad?

I mainly use spectrum, I havnt had any range issues, except when I had my rx wire running past my battery that caused some issues. But iv seen on the boards some people having issues, its not a for sure kinda thing.

my antenna won't be crossing the battery so that shouldn't be an issue

    good to know

Amazon only had 8 reviews, 1 was poor, 1 was 3 star, and 6 were 5 star

one dude's just stopped working one morning and then started back again later and hasnt given him anymore problems...and the poor review was a dude who said it wouldn't bind to his compatible receiver

    link to boards?

No range issues. However, I'm only ever 15 feet max away from the crawler, and maybe 60 feet from the jato at the track, so I haven't really put the range to the test
