I'm most interested in the hardware used for the drawers , I have seen a few different examples of different solutions

    Thanks

As soon as I get my camper shell rear window frame straightened and replace the glass with plexi, I want to start building my drawers and storage system for my bed. I was thinking two long pullouts in the middle, four storage areas on either side of the wheel wells, and one long storage area up by the cab taking up the last space not taken up by the drawers. I'll draw up some blueprints this weekend. Maybe split the system into two halves so it can be taken out when the entire bed is needed.

that moment when you are designing a drawer system on Sketchup and realize you used the wrong dimensions... :(

I like his solution for the drawers with the bearings but that eats into the drawer width by quite a bit , still pretty impressive

True, but it only appears to decrease it by about an inch per drawer. I could live with that if it will last longer than sliders.

    Inch per side per drawer

    2" reduction in drawer width

There must be smaller profile bearings on the market. I don't see why you would need more than 1/2" per drawer side anyway.

The 1" tube that rides on the bearings and supports the drawer is the limiting factor

Why not just have a 1/2"x1" piece of wood/metal that rides between the bearings along the drawer length? That would work fine and having two strips would support any weight you could fit into the drawers.

I doubt a 1/2" piece of wood would survive too many full extensions of a heavily loaded drawer

I found some pics of the caster/rollers that the truck vault uses.

I haven't found any online yet but I did find something similar from this company http://alwayse.co.uk spec sheet attached.

Yeah , I've sourced some side mounted casters for the back as well as the ball transfer bearings

I may actually go with UHMW runners and rear casters

you thinking of putting the runners in the box or on the drawer bottom?

Mounted on the case , the drawer would slide on them , 2 side mounted casters at the back of the drawer on each side about 12" apart that ride on the top of the case

Those look like longboard/skateboard bearings. You could probably make your own rollers to be beefy enough if you wanted

I wonder if you could loose some weight if you added them to the bottom of the drawer like this.

You talking about the build from the link I posted ?
