Can you use E-85 fuel in a super charged tacoma?

E85 vehicles require special injectors, fuel rails, modules, and a myriad of other items to work. Your Tacoma is not designed to run on E85, but if you need higher octane (one of the benefits of E85) you will need to run high octane unleaded.

 

if you put E-85 in, you might as well put in Diesel

 

Yes you can. Have to replace the injectors, get the x-1, fuel pump, and run a special map. Contact APR or URD for more info.

 

I know E85 requires high volume components to flow properly, are the Tacoma injector rails big enough? Or do you just need bigger injectors?

 

when you put on the trd charger you get the up graded injectors so i wanted to know cause i know some high performance cars you can use e-85

 

e85 holds a lot of performance potential.

APR is working on e85 kits for the 1GR motor. I plan on switching over in the near future.. looking forward to 20-30hp in gains on my truck

Here is what the dealer said You will still not be able to run E-85 fuel. E-85 is a very corrosive fuel that your fuel lines and components cannot sustain. It is suggested to run premium unleaded when it has a supercharger.

 

everyone realizes that they will get 25% LESS mileage than w/ gasoline right? E85 (85%ethanol/15%gas) has 25% LESS BTUs that gas (90%gas/10%ethanol).

just something to consider. watch the price differential, i might make sense to some, but i know when i did a research paper on it, it was a bunch of crap the government wanted you to buy into...

 

what about mpgs jonnyenergy? what are the real life before/after ratings? what is the price differential between regular gas and E85 per gallon?

also, how much are we talking to convert a tacoma to be able to handle E85?

yes it has a higher octane rating, but that will only be an advantage to those higher compression engines that actually need this type of fuel...it will have absolutely no advantage to a car designed to run 87 octane gas. yes it burns cleaner, you got me there.

BUT...a 15% loss in mileage proves my previous post. out here in socal, there are very few stations and the spread is about the same at 18-20%. with my vehicle getting 20 mpgs, gas at $3.00/gal, E85 at $2.40/gal, i will have to drive over 23000 miles for the gas savings to pay just for your kit w/ the current special!

its an interesting idea, but unless your a tree loving hippie, it really isnt practicle.

now...i would love to get a diesel and make my own fuel out of old restaurant oil, but that is besides the point!!

Any vehicle can take advantage of e85's performance (if you have the tools). A vehicle designed for 87 fuel is set that way because of spark timing and SCR (static compression ratio). 87 is not performance friendly. NOW, if you had a way to tune the motor, you could take advantage of that higher octane (in terms of power performance).

The MPG loss... yes, that is a down side to it. But if your paying 30% for gasoline then e85, then you could switch and save money.

I wouldn't run e85 if you care about MPG... but for power.. mmmm....

 

No E85 stations around me so it wouldn't matter to me one way or the other if I could use it.
