    5200 vs 5300

    Is the only difference built-in WiFi and the 4th gen processor?
    $150 difference on the bodies.

    ....and 5200 vs 5300 vs 7000

    Ascending price....

    5200 = $650
    7000 = $700
    5300 = $800
    7100 = $1150

    So it looks like the 7000 is a no-brainer over the 5200. The 7100 is out of the question.
    Both of the 5x series are 24mp, with 3rd and 4th gen processors. The 7000 is a 2nd gen processor... but is that an issue if I'm not shooting video?
    I like the button layout on the 5x00... my nose doesn't press the menu button when sighting. I also like the movable LCD, but again, I'm not shooting video and generally do not use live-view, so the main use for that would be to flip it over to protect it in storage.

    It really doesn't seem the 5300 is worth $150 more than the 5200.
    They all go to Hi-2, the 5x00 run 30-1/4000, 7000 goes to 1/8000.
    Only thing is it looks like the 7000 is lacking HDR. I don't see that as a deal breaker since software can make up for that.

    I noticed on the demo at Best Buy that one of the models had a multiple exposure mode (double/triple/quad exposure... like Starstax)... don't remember which model it was.
    The 7x00 has a place to set the information for multiple non-CPU lenses.

    Do you have any older lenses that would take advantage of the 7000 focus motor? I have the older 5100 and I wish I would have gone with the 7000 or even a d90 for what I do and size use.

    The difference in the Expeed and Expeed 2 processors was better image quality and speed of processing. Don't know about the newer ones but I doubt your going to see more speed unless it's in the flagship cameras. The Expeed 3 in the D7100 added more vibrant colors and noise reduction.

    I have the D7000 and love it. I wouldn't want in camera HDR processing anyway due to being able to do it better with other software. On the D7000 the screen is covered with a removable plastic cover to protect the screen. On the D7000 you can use just about any lens since 1979 on it. You might not have metering but it will work. Some of the lenses from the 80's have been upgraded with the chip so that metering works on them. Having the D7000 there isn't enough advantages to upgrade to a D7100 for me.

    There is a D7000 on craigslist here for $570 used with 2357 shutter clicks on it. Practically brand new.

    Edit: The D7100 says it can do HDR in camera with combining 2 shots from a single shutter click. I wouldn't do less than a 3 shot HDR personally.
