    That's more likely to occur if they wheel it in hills in 4 hi. Many think it's cool to say they ran a trail in 4 hi, when all they're doing is frying the trans.

    allpro long travel, shackle flip with ome dakars, cruisin offroad bumpers and sliders, 4.88 gears with arb's front and rear, budbuilt skids.
    I wheeled 315's on stocks gears for 2 years without a problem. Never broke anything, just wheel smart. Now im 4.88, locked and love it.

    i havent had any issue with stock gearing and 35's but im also a manual which to me, makes a big difference than if i had an auto

    I agree, I'm comparing the size difference in my mind to when i lifted a Cherokee and put 32's on from 30's. it was sluggish but nothing that pissed me off.

    my bigger concern is the crawling ratio. Now that I'm grown up i'll entertain a 4.0:1 tcase change or a crawler box install...maybe both!

    yeah but that would be a read-out on an auxiliary screen. I plan on getting one but would like to have the factory speedo read the real deal.

    I pretty much always wheel in 4lo. I was told that from day one for the very reason that it keeps the trans cooler.

    IIRC if you got the factory tow package (not stealership one) it comes with a bigger trans cooler.

    Do you have an automatic?

    I am driving around with an auto now. I have noticed that I have to be choosey with my speeds on the hwy. I can be cruising at 70 mph on my speedo (77mph real life) and at around 2000 rpm without issue. If I go a little slower it drops a gear. It also sits comfortably at 60 mph (66 mph real life) below 2000. If I was in a hilly area I think the trans would have a hard time sticking at those speeds/rpms without changing gears on a regular basis.

    I think I am alright for now, but will be regearing as soon as I can. Definitely want it all done before I make my trip out to Moab in may. Which you guys should all attend! Homer made it out last year!

    Im auto and run hills regularly. Truck never searched for gears when on flats or hills. But it would shift into 4th on steep hills to keep 65mph. After the regear it stays in 5th on steep hills at 65.

    4.56's would do just fine, as long as you not planning to go bigger. I actually think 4.56 would be better for people would do a lot of highway with 35's

    How do you figure? Auto trans speedo is based on wheel speed unlike the manual guys are based on shaft speed.

    You always say that, but everyone else tells me to go 4.56.


    Do you think 4.56 and 37s would be under powered? Not that I'm going 37s or even thinking about it.

    Nwitaco says 4:56 and 37 with auto was good.


    I dunno I like the 4:88s on the trail, and highway. Brings it back to stock rpm.
