    Bone stock. For now.
Thanks for the info! I'm leaning more towards the Cooper Discoverer ATP's. They're just so dang cheap! But, you get what you pay for...

Tire noise drives me crazy!!!! I wanted something quiet, that would still perform well. I went with the Bridgestone Revo 2 on my Jeep Rubicon and I am very happy with them. I do the trails in Sedona with them, but nothing really hard core. They are very quiet and really smooth.

When I replace the new tires on my Taco I will get the Revo again.

Been very happy with my General Grabber AT2 in 265/70/16 (P rated)....will have 50K on them when I will most likely swap them out with Toyo Open Country AT2 in 265/75/16 in Load Range C later this summer (September) before hunting season.

Im honestly not sure what load range the people that have them here have but Im sure that has something to do with it. I always air down my tires it makes the truck perform better in the sand and sharp rocks.

I went from the Hankook MT's to the ATm's , snow type makes a huge difference , I think the ATm's would be good on dry snow , with the wet slushy stuff I usually deal with the shallow tread blocks of the ATm tends to pack with snow and not clear whereas the wider / deeper tread pattern of the MT's tended to clear itself of snow a lot better

    Wouldn't you like to know!
Just had to make this decision myself a week ago I really wanted a good performing, long lasting tire for not a lot of money and found these to be the best bargain for the money, but my other considerations were the cooper AT-3, Nitto Terra's AT, BFG AT, & the Hankook dynapro atm. After comparing prices and reading a ton of reviews, I ended up getting the Cooper ATP because it was the cheapest:D @$126/tire at Discount Tire(after haggling a bit, they talked me into wheels too:D) and from what everyone says it performs just as good or better than the AT-3. I've had the BFG AT on my old taco and absolutely loved them but ouch they are expensive same with the Nitto's.

they performed surprisingly well in some slick mud on the farm. caked up a bit though but still performed well

I started reading and can't believe nobody until this post bothered to ask the OP what he's going to do. Some of the suggested tires would absolutely suck or be perfect, just depends what you do with them. The Cooper ST looks great but if you're 90% on road would be a stupid choice. The Michelin MS2 doesn't look great but in the same situation excels.

So point being, OP, what do you need the tire for and then start asking what tire is best for that purpose.

I'll be looking for tires myself in a few months, for those of you who have the cooper (at3 or atp's) how do they wear. I've read lots of good reviews about them but haven't heard any long term reports, mainly do they get loud when they wear?

Duratracs for mud, BFGs in rocks, not sure about snow. I ran Duratracs on 2009 Prerunner DSCB. Had them for close to 30k looked like they would make 65 when I sold it.

What situations and conditions are people in when getting sidewall failures? I see most of the failures are when people are doing some serious wheeling.

Are the Duratrac's actually built and designed for this kind of wheeling? Me thinks not really. There are probably a lot better tires out there for people who do that kind of off roading.

But people buy them as an "all purpose" off road tire, then do some serious wheeling which puts the duratrac's at the extreme end of their capabilities, have an issue, then bitch on the internet to everyone how the sidewalls are paper thin and suck as tires.

That would be like me telling everyone swiss army knifes suck because mine broke while I was trying to quarter a cow with it!

At the end of the day, you have to buy the right tire for the right application, otherwise you are going to be disappointed. So it bothers me when I hear a blanket statement like that about the Duratracs.

I have no issue if someone says "I can't run Duratrac's because I do serious wheeling and need something stronger". But that doesn't happen most of the time.

The OP's quesiton was what's the best AT tire these days, not what's the best wheeling tire!

I'm not saying the Duratrac's are in fact the best, just want people to understand not to take this so called sidwall issue too seriously if you are an average joe!

The most sidewall failure i have seen with them have been trails with rocks not like crawling kind of rocks either or its because of going fast and hitting a rock that happens to be in a dirt road. at the end of the day im just going with what i have seen in person. Also a lot of members in our state work for tire shops and have told me some stuff about them that would never make me want to own them. There is no perfect tire period. I stated my opinion was the toyo at2's because they are the best all terrain tires i have had. I didnt say dont buy duratracs I said there are few members here in the state that have them for a reason.

True. I paid $140 a tire after rebate. The DT guy stated it's their new redesign due to past issues with balancing and tire looking bald when worn down to the siping. I like the tread design and the frugal side got the best of me. Oh well live and learn and the Terra grapplers seems to balance and ride .well. $200 each hurts but better ride will be worth it.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Surprising that no one mentioned the "new" Mickey Thompson ATZ p3 yet. 3-ply sidewall, nice chunky lugs with side-biters, modestly quiter than traditional MTs.

I might be grabbing a set when I need new tires, either that or Trail Grapplers (due to their great size options).
