Checked on toyotapartscheap.com , lower chain tensioner appears to be different 2007 vs 2013, price is higher for that part if you choose 2013 which I could assume its because its different....:notsure:

Happy, they're telling me that they should have the short block early-mid next week. I'm hoping Friday or early the following week. It's merely a guess though. They do want to get the truck off of the rack, they could use the space.

Wow what a cluster f..k I just did cross reference on part numbers...
For those driving trucks produced until Nov 2007 from NUMMI
Looks like Both Engine and Transmission is pulled off the shelf from Land Cruiser factory in Japan  Part numbers cross check with Prado 4.0 L V6 :humble:
After words Toyota have two versions Japanese and I am guessing Alabama version ? (L) Crazy.... I like the idea of parts cross referencing with Prado. Maybe thats why trucks until end 07 seems to have unbreakable engines... :D

Hmm interseting, honestly I'm sold on the timing chain theory... either the guides or the tensioner.... I'm going to suggest it to the dealer when I take it in.

If that is the case than i can now see why a change of the oil filter will help reduce the noise. Its boosting the oil pressure during cold start up. In another car forum we did a test by using a different size oil filter from another car and it raised the pressure. Maybe this can be utilized for our tacomas.

Changed the oil yesterday and filter to test this theory. I was running Amsoil 5w-30 with the stock sized oil filter. I moved to the 0w-30 with a slightly larger element and seems to have made a difference. I'm going to continue to monitor this and update you all though.

that would apply if you got the same factory building parts and truck.in our case. Engines and transmissions were coming from Japan until Nov 2007 (atleast that's what parts cross reference says) than in 2009 NUMMI guys were told factory is moving to Texas. Than some trucks were made in Mexico. Than production is running from Texas. If you ask me. That's a recipe for disaster.
I am gonna hold on to my 2007 as long as possible.

Is there any way you can check oil pressure, before and after?

Seems to be a manufacture defect at the plant itself. Trying to cut cost of shipping engines from the motherland by building them here. American plants need to follow protocol exactly as the overseas counterpart.

Update for you all. Didn't get out much this weekend so sorry for the delay in info. Started the truck up this morning with it in the low 40's. Let the truck warm as usual up to the bottom tick on the temp gauge. No sounds what so ever. This is after changing to 0w-30 Amsoil and running a slightly larger (taller) filter element than the previous change. I'm going to continue to monitor as I am not convinced just yet. Just wanted to get you an update on my testing. We have some low 20 temps coming later in the week. I'll let you know the outcome that morning.
