That looks perfect for steak. I may have left it on 30 seconds more per side as a burger but i wouldnt turn it down as is.

 

There's a difference between cooking steak and ground beef rare. Cooking steak rare is ok because only the exterior of the beef is exposed to air/germs and heating (cooking) the exterior kills those germs. With ground beef there's many different little pieces that all have exterior facets that need to be exposed to heat (cooked) to kill the germs. When ground beef is cooked rare, that doesn't happen and chance of illness increases. My wife who is a doctor explained this to me after she disapproved of my burger cooking methods.

 

I know..which is why I cook my burgers longer than my steak

 

He said fresh ground, so i assume it was in steak form not too long before cooking, limiting the likelihood if contamination.
P.S. fwiw i was almost almost a doctor.

Just because it was in steak form doesnt mean anything.. like he said once its ground, exterior pieces are throught the whole thing meaning the whole thing needs to be cooked longer.
