I would be peeved about this as well. However, before taking it to the forum and bad mouthing them have you taken it up with them in person over the phone? The person who responded to your email was likely a CS representative who has a cookie cutter response for certain situations such as closeout items. I can't imagine that Matt, Nate, or Andrew would do you like that. Bring it up to them that it states in their ad "They are in great condition (new take off's) and require nothing more than an H11 female socket to power (not included) (12V +/-)". I can see the broken tab being an issue on their end. However, the jostled loose projector I have seen happen due to transit and should probably be taken up with the carrier. Did you have to sign for them to take them (if so, your bad)? Do you by chance know if they were insured?

I called and was told to send in pictures and that's the response I received. What got me about the response was the extra bit about "if your doing a retro the tab shouldn't matter"

No signing they were just left at front door. So I doubt they were insured.

I mean it's not the end of the world but I wish I would have known I was gambling ahead on getting "great condition".

I guess I didn't (and still don't) see that part... So does the tab matter? It might not be the end of the world. However, you did not get what you paid for and IMO it should be made right, or at least addressed. You're not asking for free stuff, but instead what you initially wanted. I can understand that.

No because I didn't quote the email completely but got me thinking about it answering your questions. (Added rest of email)

No its not the end of the world. But it limits my options now. I can't fab a mount based on that tab. I can retro but I did not buy with a retro in mind. Wanted it whole until I figured out what I was going to do with it.

Does the Gatlin gun shroud need the plastic ring around the FX-R projector in order to fit properly?

You must cut those four tabs inside the Gatling to clear the FX-R, and then glue the shroud on, in fact. No centric rings.

Any idea on when the next set will be shipping?

I want to make sure to spend my tax returns on stuff like rent... and food... before I'm tempted to take you up on the FXRs :)

To anyone wondering, I've got a retro in my '99 Superhawk that has been going strong for 4 years (I think) now! Great group of guys working at TRS!

Does anyone have an idea why my passenger side ballast keeps shitting out? It last about a week and then nothing. I tried switch them and the problem follows with the one ballast so it's definitely it. This is the 2nd time it has happened in the 3 weeks I've had the kit

IIRC, the harness from TRS plugs directly into the headlight socket.

You may try building a relay circuit directly to the battery. I've found that cleans up many problems in the systems I've rebuilt.

Outside of that, how do you mean "shitting out"? Does it flicker, cut out, fry itself with a puff of magic smoke, burn bulbs, dance the tango when the music is waltz...?

My ballast is definitely bad. TRS just sent me this new one though for the same problem. It will not fire up. On the last bad ballast it was blowing a fuse but this time its just the bulb not coming on. No fuse. I moved the ballast to the drivers side and same problem.

It's weird though that it's the same side and ballast again. It makes me think there is some other problem going on.

Are you properly grounded? Swap ballasts and see if the problem replicates itself

Like I said, bypass the factory harness; there may be an intermittent short somewhere that's wreaking havoc.

Go straight from the battery to the ballast to see if you have power there. Localizing power and ground to whatever device you're using is a good idea, IMO.

    Andrew,

I bought 3 kits from a group buy last year and just installed a kit into my buddys wrx (d2s kit) I think both of our ballasts are bad because the light flickers on for one second and turns off. Sorry to get to you this way. This is my friends daily driver and now he has no headlights. :-( Can you chime in? Maybe I can order replacement ballasts and send you the old ones? I would PM you but I saw your 'motto'

I wouldn't recommend this for a permanent solution. Asking for Phantom battery drains this way

Not so phantom when the lights won't turn off hahaha, it'd be a pretty clear and BRIGHT reason (so much pun).

I suggested that as an interim to building a proper relay harness ;)
