Hey there, first time posting here. I just bought a 2014 DCSB TRD Sport and would like to know how far I can still travel when the low fuel indicator light comes on. Anyone with a V6 4.0 have any experience to share with running out of gas?

    Thanks,
    FTB

    Depends on your fuel economy

You have about 3-4 gallons left when the light comes on

I drove 58 miles with the light on and when I fueled up I only put in 19.8gal when the pump clicked off.

    I don't fear the light.

Until it runs out of fuel. :D

Don't know what the manual says but I normally have a few gallons left upon fill up after the light comes on.

I think the most fuel I've ever put in was maybe 18 gallons, so even after driving about 30 miles with the light on I still had a couple gals. left in the tank.

I've done 21.1 but I run it close and really top it off (against all sane advice). That said, I've never run out of fuel or had any repairs.

Most I've ever been able to put in my truck was a little over 18 gals. I don't let it get very low most of the time.

Thank you for the replies! On my last vehicle (Subaru Forester) I knew I was stuck a little over 10 miles after the indicator light came on. I happy to learn that my truck should be able to go a little farther.

No money, all went to truck...
OP, this isn't a good question. A better question would be "how many gallons are left when fuel light goes on?"

    The answer is 5 gallons.

Actually, it's 4 gallons... Light comes on around 17 with a 21 gallon tank. I reset my trip meter when the light comes on and fill up before 60. So far no issues and usually still have enough left.

    Welcome
I've heard several people say their light came on at 16.5 gallons.
However, you should assume you only have three gallons when it comes on.
Our tanks are 21 gallons (80 liters)

How many gallons does it take to keep the fuel pump covered and cooled?

I have stopped for gas as soon as I've noticed the light a few times now, only 2 months old now, and can only pump 13.5-14 gal into it. I started thinking I had a 16 gal tank or something so the last time it came on I went about 50 miles and it took a hair over 16 gal to fill it.

I have topped mine off many times right when the light comes on. It takes 17 gallons each time. The tank is supposedly 21.1 gallons, but I dont know the total when I fill to the top. So expect slightly over 4 gallons when the light comes on, and calculate the mileage you are getting to determine how many miles you have left.
Running the engine out of gas is an issue, as the in-tank fuel pump uses the fuel as a coolant, and getting it to pump gas back to the engine when there is air in the line can be problematic.

When the guage line is 1/2 way between the last line and the letter E you're about done... which is 4.5 gallons... I get about 50 miles out of her once the light goes on, but mpg is a whole other story which leads me to explain this.... when running my running 35/12.5/20 (toyo open country mt) 50 miles on my dash is actually somewhere between 56.3 56.8 miles in areal world measurement... I've used several ways to compute this but gps doesn't lie... download an app on your phone and see for yourself :)
