When I turn on my a/c on my '05 tacoma 4.0 it seems to want to turn off, the revs go up and down pretty bad. I had all of the a/c system replaced 2 yrs ago and it's not doing any of the symptoms like before. Has anybody had this happen to them before and if so what was the solution. Every bit of advice helps.

Does the A/C cycle? does the compressor turn on and off or does it stay on? It might be a high pressure switch issue. The engine could be fighting unusual resistance from your compressor.

You might have put too much oil on the K&N and therefore the throttle body may need a good cleaning. Super easy, look it up on youtube

It doesn't have an external fuel filter. It's part of the fuel pump in the tank.

Well just an update, the issue with my truck was a failed compressor. According to the mechanic it was locking up and needed to be replaced along with the rest of the ac system for proper warranty. Hopefully I should get it by the end of today, I'll let you all know the outcome.

$265 for labor but replaced the entire ac system again, seemed to have taken care of the problem, couldn't get a clear answer on why the compressor had locked up though, oh well just happy that I got my truck back and this time it didn't cost me $900 like the very first time. Again thanks to everybody that gave their input, really appreciate it.
