I've heard no reports of failing air pumps. The 'noise' on start-up and shut-down is normal.

WHAT IS IT WITH PEOPLE GETTING ALL OFFENDED WITH ALL CAPS..MAYBE BACK IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE INTERNET IT WAS CONSIDERED SHOUTING, BUT LETS GET OVER IT.

Now is this the same air pump that is suppose to have something to do with the brake system? Mine is a 2010 and I always hear a noise coming from within the motor compartment when i start the truck. Didnt know what it was for the longest time but from reading posts i learned it had something to do with the brake system.

Actually all caps is annoying and I personally just ignore posts like this when it all caps.

Why is it so hard to use proper capitalization and sentence structure?

I believe the noise you're referring to is the vapor management valve which opens upon start up to pull fumes out of the charcoal canister and into the intake manifold. Runs for a few seconds then stops?
