Did a coolant change today and found the block drain plug/valve....attached a tube to it and it worked great!

Found it between AC compressor and oil filter...right above engine mount....higher up on the block then you would think

Pic of actual plug removed(no need to take out all the way to drain)
    seemed like brass...10 mil head

If you are asking about the 4L, there are 2 plugs. It has one on both sides of the block. I put regular red toyota antifreeze back in my truck at the 60k mark when I changed my fluids. I know the manual states to only use the super long life, but the red is not hurting mine any. I also replace mine every 30k after switching to the red because I like to have new fluids from time to time. Just don't mix the Super long life with water if that is what you put back in.

I'm about to drain/refill my 2.7 tomorrow. Haynes manual lists the capacity at 8.8 quarts; a bit less than 2.5 gallons. I bought coolant from the dealer today and only ended up getting one gallon to mix with a gallon of distilled water. Toyota parts guy said he has never seen it take more than 2 gallons to refill and I forgot to check the manual for capacity before I purchased. I hope the parts guy is right because the coolant was around $32 for a gallon. I'd hate to have to buy another gall and only use like .2 gallons of it, leaving me with coolant sitting around for nothing...

Hi, My chilton's manual states drain plugs on the block to drain coolant. Is there only one drain plug? I have a 2010 tacoma 2.7 L reg. cab.

No but most will recommend Toyota pink or red.

When you pull the radiator plug on the 2.7 you get real close to 1 gal out, when you use the drain on the block you get about another 1/2 gal.

After draining both you will still have some coolant in the system, which you can do a few cycles of distilled water to flush it out if you choose. Make sure to turn the heat on when flushing to get the old coolant out of the heater core and let the engine come up to temp so the t-stat opens.

I have a 2010 tacoma and a 2009 Manual because if you want a 2010 you can only view it on line and have to renew 25$ every year! What a ripe off! Is there any difference between the two? and who should I pose this question to in this forum or on the net?

    It is copyrighted material.

What the hell is going on in this thread?

It was a technical post that I started nine years ago.
