I haven't changed tho oil on my Tacoma yet. But, isn't the drain plug magnatized. I always have a look at the drain plugs while doing an oil change to see what type of crap the magnet has caught. I wouldn't like not being able to just so I do not have to turn a wrench.

    Stock plug is not magnetized.

I changed oil on my wife's 4runner yesterday, and realized I didn't have a fumoto on this one like we did on the last. It's absolutely going on during the next oil change; love those things. Another user here with no issues.

Fumoto since first oil change, love it. No the threads don't extend 3/8" into the pan, the threads are 3/8" and probably extend 1/16". I've seen where 1 person slotted the end with a bandsaw so oil could drain completely, but not worth it for me.

Looks like in the market for a magnitized plug then.

Here is a shot of the slotted fumoto, he said this was actually way deeper than necessary.

You don't need any type of clip protector.
I had one on mine for 2 years, and haven't had it on for the past 2 years. My oil hasn't randomly drained out since then.
It would take the force of a human hand to reach up there and physically maneuver the drain clip.

Thank you for your info. I apologize, I didn't realize I was "overthinking", was simply hoping to get info from a user and you had used/had both. I had read up on the valve/reviews and didn't know why some Tacoma owners chose the nipple and others didn't.

I had one on my '06 Duramax and I have one on my Tacoma.
I ran a Fram Sure-Drain on my '03 Tundra and my wife's Rav4... no ground clearance on the Rav, and I didn't know about the Fumoto in 2002.

No problems at all. I'd go with the one without the hose nipple, unless you have skid plates... just a little extra clearance (the valve is tucked up above the crossmember). If you have plates, the hose nipple is nice and allows you to direct the drain around the plate.

Some guys lock a hose clamp around it, but I have never heard of one opening. You need to pull the lever down to get it out of the locked position, then rotate it 90 degrees. It's in a teflon bushing so it is a snug turn.... even if the lever "bounces" down against the spring from off roading, it's not going to turn itself.

I've used the Fumoto since I bought my Tundra in '01. Never an issue. And I don't have the spring clamp on it. The valve is tucked up above your skid plate, it isn't getting ripped off. I also use the FilterMag to get any magnetic particles to stay in my oil filter. Again, never a problem.

Do you remove your valve covers and mop up all of the oil puddles on top of the head?

Being concerned about a couple of ounces of "missed" oil is overkill.
It is not a significant amount.
On my motorcycle, drained per factory directions, then remove the oil screen (a 30,000 mile inspect/clean item) an additional 5 ounces of oil comes out.

It's not a big deal. That 3-5 ounces of oil is more than clean enough when it is diluted with 176 ounces of new oil.

Obviously oil is throughout the motor. Metal shaving settle at the bottom of the oil pan. If a plug protrudes into the pan, then those shavings wont drain. Anyone who has used a magnetic plug knows there is a fair amount of metal that settles. The plug may or may not protrude, I don't own one. I don't have a problem with removing a single bolt to drain my oil.

What is the deal with the " Magnetic Plug ". The amount of ferrous metal in these engines is so small it isn't worth even thinking about.

    And this little jewel:
If your engine is producing Metal Shavings it is already too late to do anything about it.

An engine is a lot different than a differential or transmission.

    ^ +1

A lot of imagined metal shavings. If there are metal dust, yes a magnetic plug will colllect them, but so will the oil filter, they certainly won't get pumped back up.

Also a lot of imagined metal shavings getting "wooshed" out from the bottom of the pan.
